Andy Bluenoes I'm surprised you didn't notice a difference in power mode, it was light night and day for me. Could be my imagination I suppose!

I was expecting more of a surge I guess...but as its derestricted, maybe it wont make that much more difference anyway?

Put the bike in power mode today rather than Normal, cant say I noticed much difference in the two, and battery usage was the same.

Over a timed course power mode should be quicker, acceleration should be a bit sharper as more amps are delivered giving more torque. The real difference is on inclines where the torque is noticeable, find a good hilly section ride the bike in each mode you should notice the extra oomph.

I agree with Nealh -I felt an increase in torque on the hills.
The main difference in the power modes is the acceleration. If you ride constantly over 20 mph, you're probably in the range where the motor is limiting the current rather than the controller, in which case the power will be exactly the same.
they could have changed something on the bike - Clare did not get anywhere near.

No. I have only been able to get about 22mph with full power & level 6.

She wasn't using level 6. You can maintain 24 mph on the flat without pedalling hard. After that, the power ramps down, so you can get a couple more mph by pedalling hard. oxygen haven't changed anything. they have these bikes in my local ebike shop. Nearly every time I go there, someone is trying out an Oxygen. They're their best seller by quite a margin. If you try one, you'll see why. They've always been good right back to the old Emates. Somehow, the total package has always been better than the sum of the parts.

She was using level 6 & full power. As i have said i've entered the 'code' correctly & tried all the different wheel sizes just in case it made a difference, but the bike with me pedaling hard will still only do about 22mph on the flat before the motor cuts out.

The question was how fast the wheel spins when off the ground. That gives the maximum motor speed. How fast you go on the road has no meaning because it depends on how hard you pedal.

Measured the p clip close to perfection...or just luck...

Both mudguards now on. Front one is a very close fit.1b1d5ee307796aaec72d2bc49a308555.jpg71d398f8ebf9a2da0831fd0dfa70ad37.jpg1e0af69a3deda6e76f1192b2416f252f.jpgb846e7ab6cb06eea28b43024a67f7446.jpg

I've put the bike on a stand & spun the pedals, but the motor still seems to stop at about 23/24 mph. The speedo keeps going past 30 if i keep spinning but with no motor assistance?!

Clare the Rear -paid attention on the way home today, I agree with you that when on road the assist falls off at 22mph. I think the gearing is too low to go much above that, I find myself spinning out.
Looking at the specs the rear cassettes are different on the S-Cross MTB (11-32) and the CB/ST (14/28). So that's probably why I'm not hitting 25mph.

I clocked it at exactly 22.3mph on straight roads, the maximum the motor could do, didn't matter what I did, that was it's maximum.

I find just above 22mph to be comfortable for me in 8th gear without killing myself. The motor is still assisting after that, but you dont get that much reward for peddling any harder. Going into 9th gear means the cadence doesnt suit me.

Moved house finally last week, and been doing lots of work on it since then, so currently off work and not had time to go out on the bike.

Did manage an 8 mile run out last night to take a break from it all. Forgotten how much fun it is :)

Has developed an annoying rattle when I hit a bump...I think it could be the kickstand, but not sure...will have to try and work it out as I know it will pee me off.

Back to work for the full 18 mile run next Monday

Need to invest in a set of comfy grips, so was going to get these...

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ergon-gp1-handlebar-grips/

Not sure which ones to get...as space on the bars for grips seems quite small. The current grip length from end to end is 13.5cms. Has anyone had experience of the gp1 grips on the oxygen? Should I go for the gripshift option as they appear shorter?

You can cut a piece off the inboard end if they're too long. you can even do that with the ones with a clamp each end because they still clamp OK just from one end.

There's loads of cheap ergonomic grips on Ebay.

I have both Ergon grips and the cheaper copies fitted on my bikes and find the cheap ones to be just as good.

The rubber grips wear the same on both of them so they have to be replaced in time and £7 is a lot easier on the pocket than £40 Ergons (with Barends).

I agree and also, a geared hub motor accelerates faster than a direct motor at the same current.

Can you lift up the rear wheel and throttle up the bike to see how fast it goes at no load?

Checked this today...26.4mph

Loving this thread. As a biking novice I'm learning more about my bike on here than owning it for 6 months. Are the grips crap? I have no other experience . But my wrists always hurt during and after a ride. So will be interested to see what you come up with.

I bought the suntour ncx suspension post. Only done about 20 miles but lower back jarring now all gone. But saddle seems less comfy lol.mive found I have to pull the saddle as far forward as it will go too.

Wouldnt call the grips crap, but definitely will not do me any favours doing 40ish mile a day. Ive only done 3 or 4 decent runs on it so far due to the house move, but already felt my wrists starting to ache, and the grips feel really sharp when holding them if that makes sense....

I have gone for the ergon GP1 grips I mentioned earlier, not the cheapest, but ive wasted way too much in the past on buying poor imitations of stuff, so just went for it. They arrived today, I have put them on ready for my first day back at work after 2 weeks off.

The seat is going to take me a week or two I think before I will have any idea as to if I can stick with it....the couple of rides I did do, it did feel a bit harsh, but time will tell

I was complaining about my seat for the first few rides but now it feels okay, I think it just took getting used to cycling again.

The grips that come with the bike feel okay to me, not really had any issues with them, the funny thing is the tyres, I asked for Schwalbe Energizer Pro touring because I thought the supplied tyres were Kendra, well it turns out they had Schwalbe Marathon tyres fitted, I got these back.

I am not sure if that is just the shop I bought from or whether Oxygen themselves now fit Schwalbe as standard, perhaps you can tell me Andy.

There is not much difference between the Marathon Pro tyres ( note Not the plain vanilla marathon tyres ) and the Energizer except the Pro has better puncture protection whereas the Energizer has a slight edge on rolling resistance and road and off road performance.
