May 12, 20232 yr Hi all, I have a problem with my Bosch Performance Line CX Gen2 motor. Error 510 is displayed on the screen when I stop pedaling. Error 510 is referring to internal sensor error. Anyone fixed this or the only option is to buy a new motor?
May 12, 20232 yr It's caused by magnetism. Did you fit a magnetic bottle holder or anything like that? Do you have magnet strap holders on your shoes or any magnets where you keep the bike.

No, no magnetic bottle holder. No any magnets where I keep the bike. This error 510 was a random error. After rebooting the bike, it was OK few days without any error. But actually the reboot doesn't help anymore. When I power on the bike, I can hear a little noise inside the motor but there is nothing moving inside. I remember when the bike was OK without errors, the motor was totally silent after power on. I tried to charge the battery to 100%. When I plug in the charger connector in the bike - no noise in the motor, when I pull it out - the noise is present. Very strange.
May 12, 20232 yr Author The only magnet near is the magnet of the speed sensor attached to the spike of the rear wheel.

May 12, 20232 yr The only magnet near is the magnet of the speed sensor attached to the spike of the rear wheel. Your symptoms are exactly what other people describe when they have a magnetic field near the motor. Magnetic fields can also be caused by electrical devices as well. Do you have any thing like that where you keep the bike? Some people are blaming the magnetic loops burried in the road that operate traffic lights. Did you used to get the problem in the same places?

Did you used to get the problem in the same places? In my case this error 510 is now everywhere, does not matter if I'm in the, city, in the home or, even in the forest. I checked with my phone with magnetic field measuring app. I do detect some magnetic field near the speed sensor magnet ( that is normal), near the battery and near the motor. I saw other type of electrical motors used in rear wheel - there is coil wirings and permanent magnets inside the motor, and hall sensors to detect motor phase and spinning. I never disassembled a Bosch motor to see if there are magnets inside.
May 12, 20232 yr If it were me, and having read the linked post, I would be finding myself a good quality compass and start testing the various components on the bike - if necessary taking them off one by one to test them....particularly the chainrings. Hard to tell with the components on the bike if it's a magnetic field internal to the motor or something next to the motor.
May 12, 20232 yr Author https://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/error-code-510-bosch-performance-line-cx.40298/ Thank you for the information. I'm trying to realize, what is "a magnetised gear shift cable". It's inside the motor or outside? My bike is equipped with a belt (not a chain) and there is no gear shifts outside. The speed shifting is inside rear gear hub, called enviolo. I have no chance I removed the belt ring, the error 510 is still present. I don't have other pieces to remove around the motor. All is removed already. I tried to disconnect all cables from the motor and I leaved it overnight like this. Next day I have connected the cables back but this not helped, error 510 is still there. Hard to tell with the components on the bike if it's a magnetic field internal to the motor or something next to the motor. I removed already the motor cover and the belt gear. The next step is to remove all entire motor, or the right side of the motor to open it. But to remove this side of the motor I need a special extraction tool. Or I risk to damage it if trying to open with a flat screwdriver. But is there a reason to open a sealed motor? I searched on the internet and there is no spares for Bosh motors. Only bearing. The torque sensor is not available for purchasing. So, if I don't have spares, there is no reason for opening a motor, I think. The electronic card is hissing inside. And somebody here reported that only Bosh can change the torque sensor. Because if you unscrew the nut, you need to do a calibration after installing it in place to measure correct torque force. So I'm afraid to touch the torque sensor. Edited May 12, 20232 yr by Lorient
May 12, 20232 yr Author The way to try clearing errors or analysing errors with the Bosch diagnostic tool is blocked - I don't have this tool and it's impossible to download it. The way to test with different spares is blocked - impossible to buy. I asked help to many Bosch authorized dealers - still waiting for the reply. This bike is the only transport I have, to go to work or everywhere. I don't have a car or driver license. So now I'm down back to the subway, public transport So sad If I buy a new motor, exactly the same model as mine (BDU250P CX), the bike computer will work with a new motor without problems or it needs a configuration with the Bosch diagnostic tool after installing a new motor? I'm worried that I will buy a new one and I could not use it. Somebody already replaced the motor without calling to Bosch specialists?
May 12, 20232 yr https://www.ebikemotorcentre.com/ if you cant find any solution then speak to peter or he can px the motor you have for a new one if required tho i have never had this problem on my bike in 10 years.

May 12, 20232 yr sounds like it could be the controller but not even peter can get those but can do some board repairs to the controllers.

May 12, 20232 yr Author Magnetic field and electro magnetic field EMF are not the same thing. I thought, how to protect the motor from ... what exactly, magnetic or EMF field? Firstly, we should know which field is causing the issue. Secondly, we can identify a shield material to protect a sensible electronic part. For example, the aluminum foil is shielding EMF, but is not shielding magnetic field. The magnetic field is shielded by ferromagnetic metals (iron, cobalt, nickel). If I will find what is exactly causing the error 510, I will report this.
May 12, 20232 yr Author Another useful information is to know, what Bosch motors are vulnerable to this error 510. Mine is Gen 2 motor, performance Line CX, BDU250P CX (0275007037) If someone has another generation and the same problem, it would be nice to share that information.
May 13, 20232 yr You do realise the motor is full of permanent magnets and magnetic fields? No. Can you explain it to me please? Soundwave keeps shoing his, but all I see are cog-wheels and some electronics.

Mine is Gen 2 motor, performance Line CX, BDU250P CX (0275007037) If someone has another generation and the same problem, it would be nice to share that information. It affects all versions. There was a new firmware that was supposed to fix it sone time in 2021. If you have older firmware, it might be worth getting it updated, but there are many causes of the problem, so don't count on it.

If you have older firmware, it might be worth getting it updated, but there are many causes of the problem, so don't count on it. My motor firmware version is 1.8.6.0 According to Bosh site, the last version is 1.8.6.0 for Gen2 motors. So, my motor firmware is up to date and error 510 is not resolved.
May 13, 20232 yr Author Have you tried cleaning any accumulation of crud off the sensor ? Not yet. To get to the sensor, I need to open the motor. Somebody managed to open the gen2 motor without special tools and without damaging it? I saw one video, the guy is using special extraction tool. Actually the motor is in this position to take it away from all the cables inside the frame.
May 13, 20232 yr thats my old performance motor but the same thing but when you remove the bolts holding the cover on you have to remove the cer clip or the right hand side so you can slide it over the motor axle. that black thing at the bottom is the Torque sensor and held in plce buy a castle nut on the left hand side under a plastic cover. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Ihq29kv1Sg:391
