I live in New Mexico, and the path I take is about a 4 mile commute on a back road that I see a car in once every few days. It is downhill on the way to where I work, but the return trip is ata moderate incline for the trip back.

Try reading Connecting Batteries in Series or Parallel Just from curiosity, did you also purchase a controller and a throttle? If so, what did you purchase, and from where? If you can supply these things then help will be just around the corner!

Ah, thank you very much for the info! I had read that some people had luck running the motor at a higher voltage for improved speed, is there anyone who has experience running Heinzmann brushed motors at higher voltages?

I am looking into replacing the controller in my ebike so I can move from a low capacity Nicd battery to a higher capacity (and lower weight) Li setup. I have heard that Crystalyte controllers are popular, but I wanted to get a few other opinions. Thanks

I also just realized that I left out the main reason for this post. The bike currently has a very nice twist throttle, but I have no idea how to (or even if I can) use the throttle with a new controller. Any suggestions on good quality replacement controllers?
