Is anyone using a badass dongle on the latest Bosch CX mid drive system, as I'm considering getting one but want to make sure I get all the relevant information before purchasing

Hi Electric daz

If you do a search on this forum relating to dongles, you'll find that their use is a very contentious issue.

This explains the initial response you've received :)

I have had a quick glance around the forums and I understand both sides a bit more, I love my new ebike but I regularly hit 25-30mph on my standard bike but the issue I find with the assist system is after the cut off point it can be a heavy sluggish bike on the flat which then makes me slower than I am on the standard one

The Badass dongle does what it says, it removes the speed cut off.

It will make the bike faster overall, but don't get too excited.

There is no 'tuning' or extra power.

The motors are built for torque, not speed, so the assistance tails off the faster you go.

Being a fairly strong cyclist will help you get the most from the dongle.

Fitting might be a problem.

Some new ebikes have the chain stay sensor mounted close to the spokes or rim, leaving no clearance for the dongle.

Badass have a couple of brackets to sort this, but remounting the sensor can be difficult if there is no slack in the cable.

Hopefully, yours is one of the bikes that needs to modding.

Regarding your riding experience so far, I've told a few fit roadies over the years not to get an ebike because it will only slow them down.

I'm sure each thought I was being obtuse.

what bike do you have as some cx motors wont let you put a bigger sprocket on the front.

if you want to go over 30 mph then you will need a 18t on the front.

Do I need to change front sprocket, I have 11 cassette on the wheel and am only looking for an average of an extra 6-10mph increase?

if you have 14t atm then yes as i have 16t 10-42 at rear and can get to 30mph

and im putting as much effort doing that as on a normal bike.

you will need the lock ring spanner some time to change it anyway so best get 1 as not good idea to try do it with a hammer and screwdriver. new 1s are 12 quid.

id also remove it now and then as muck builds up behind it anyway ;)

crank puller 5 quid and just takes 5 mins to change over sprockets.
