Geared hub motor noise

Hi,I have a brushless,geared/freewheel motor 250w, running sensorless on a dual mode controller.
I have jammed the clutch in the drive position,and used self-learn.
The problem is; when accelerating it hammers intermittantly as if throttle signal is lost,or the stator/controller are out of sync.
Could it be that the clutch is still slipping slightly,or maybe it's because I tested it on a low battery.
P.s. the motor has a speed sensor connection which is disconnected at present.

Some motors don't like to run sensorless and some controllers can run sensorless better than others.

Maybe I should install hall sensors and use it sensored.
Shouldn't be too difficult
