    spotting other e-bikes

I've only seen another e-bike once out and about in Sheffield. It was a new-looking Agattu parked outside the hospital at which I was working at the time. I was dismayed to see it was only secured by one of those silly locks they give away free at Center Parcs

    E-Bike Seating Positions

Another bar to consider is the On-One Mary: On-One Gives a decent amount of rise but the slight backwards sweep puts the hands and wrists into a more anatomic position, which may relieve some of the strain. It doesn't look too bizarre on my hybrid (in the black finish rather than chrome)...

    Modded Sprint

Totally agree. I've had a Ping battery (36V 10Ah) for a month now. Compact, light, and completely flawless so far. Greg

    best manual bike to convert

I don't know if you're UK-based, but Edinburgh Bicycle Cooperative do a good range of relatively inexpensive bikes with reasonable quality components. I have converted their Trailfinder bike with a front hub kit, and it's working out really well. When I was looking around for a suitable bike...

    Thumb throttles

I came to the same conclusion and went throttle only with one of the Alien thumb throttles. I do very much prefer it now, but it's an entirely personal thing. Of related interest, there's a guy over on Endless Sphere who modified a jetski-style trigger throttle for use with his e-bike: An...

    My wife's new Tongxin bike

Really stunning conversion, Frank. Unobtrusive and elegant. Greg

    Alien gents power problem

Glad you've got your new battery sorted. I hope it's trouble-free for you this time. I've been commuting on my Alien-based bike for nearly a year in all weathers (including the recent floods in South Yorkshire), and have really enjoyed it despite the problems/frustrations. Good luck!

    Alien gents power problem

And ironically battery number three has failed on the way to work this morning

    Alien gents power problem

I entirely agree, and very much admire Alien Bob's entrepreneurship and attitude towards customer service. It begs the question whether the price of the kits are a false economy for him as well. He can't have made much money out of Maestro or me. I think I'll be giving Mr Ping a shout sooner...

    Alien gents power problem

Something of a pattern does seem to be emerging here, not to put too much of a dampener on Thomas' new purchase. I had assumed my experience was atypical, but clearly not. My Alien experience started with the purchase of an Alien Cruiser last June, which is essentially the 36V kit on a cheap...

    Alien gents power problem

Sounds like you've had a worse time than me, Maestro! At least I have a functioning battery at present, although you've got me thinking about perhaps investing in a Ping replacement. What happened with yours, if you don't mind me asking? My first was a faulty key barrel. The replacement...

    Alien gents power problem

An interesting thought, Dynamic. I'm not sure if this makes any difference, but when I had a similar fault recently it was with a much simplified circuit with the original twist throttle (the same as on the Gents' Special with the battery meter on it) removed and a simple meterless thumb...

    Alien gents power problem

The Alien 36V system (with the battery in the pannier rack) seems to suffer from battery problems. I've had the identical situation to you, with the voltage reading ok until plugged in, when it drops and won't function. This was in fact a battery issue (although I don't know exactly what)...

    Conversion kit - Alien 24v

Hi, I have some experience of both the 24V and 36V Alien kits. My father has the 24V kit on his MTB (see this thread for some photos). A couple of things with the 24V kit. Firstly, as you can see from the photos, it mounts on the seatpost and you need a LOT of clearance. Secondly...

The Times seems to have discovered the electric bike!

And funnily enough, I've just butchered my Alien Cruiser and installed the motor onto Edinburgh's Revolution Trailfinder. Fitted very easily and works like a dream.
