  2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=124ITVgsFBs I know they had some issues but the Snaith boys seem to have actually gone crazy now...
  3. Need? Who said anything about needing it? I don't need 6" of suspension travel but I can go faster and have more fun with it. I don't need a 200mm disc brake, I rode many years on V brakes in the 90's. Hell I don't even need an eBike, I have a car and a motorbike. But I want one, with as much torque as possible.
  4. 48v system, I expect more and more will go 48v over the coming years. 120nm should be very nice for those technical climbs where you need to pop the bike over obstacles. However I'd be concerned that the extra torque over the 36v systems will mean the bigger battery still only gives a similar range to 500wh on 36v. One thing I really like about the TQ is the apparent heat-sink on the motor sides. It looks good and should keep the motor running significantly cooler than those with plastic casings.
  5. Never used, never even removed from packaging as I decided to keep the bike legal. New about 6 weeks ago. Should work with all Bosch bikes limited to 25kph made since 2014. Instructions included. £75 posted.
  6. Hopefully mine will be here on Friday. Looking forward to it as 8 days ago I moved house, to the top of a hill. I commute to work everyday by bike so I really need some help now!
  7. I had been thinking of getting a Chinese bike for my commuter, but then I found this deal, £400 off an already great value bike. Thought I should share it as they seem to have plenty of stock : http://www.hargrovescycles.co.uk/bikes/electric-bikes/cube-reaction-hybrid-hpa-pro-500-grey-red-2017-electric-bike.html Mine arrives next Friday
  8. I have a fitbit, and I have a Garmin Edge 1000 with a heart rate strap, and a Polar heart rate monitor watch with a strap. They all give the same reading (within 5bpm)so I'm happy they're all accurate enough. If you have high body fat it may make it difficult for the sensor to get an accurate reading, particularly for the optical system a fitbit uses.
  9. It's a £50 Chinese Air shock. It will. Never survive real use. The stroke is far too short and I assume it'll have no real damping. Performance will be, excuse the pun, shocking. What the BBC height? Head angle? Wheelbase? Stem length? Chainstay length? In my experience they just choose these things randomly on Chinese frames. That's why they're cheap, no R&D cost. If the frame is strong, and I have my doubts, the way they make them strong is using excessive amounts of material, so very heavy. However having looked at the link to the Norwegian bike the whole rear triangle is so puny that there's no way it'll be anything other than a flexible mess. These are terrible bikes with decent electric kits. But who wants that? Chinese hybrid frames can be Ok for general use, but not seen a decent Chinese designed mountain bike yet. If you think these will take sales away from Haibike etc you're mistaken.
  10. Exactly, it'd be junk in one ride. Fine for pottering around town, but that's no mountain bike.
  11. No, purely because it's not fitted to any good mountain bikes. That's not to say I wouldn't consider it. However until someone who knows how to design a decent quality nice to ride mountain bike uses it in their designs it will remain a niche product. Trek, Giant, Specialized, Haibike, Focus, Commencal, Lapierre, Santa Cruz, Yeti, etc etc. Even if a mid-market player like Boardman or Voodoo don't offer it. That Norwegian website linked to has just a horrific imitation of a full suspension mountain bike. Those things do not work in proper mountain biking. See below as an example :
  12. Unless the Bafang Max is on a reputable brand mountain bike I'm not interested, not matter how good it is. I am actually considering two new eBikes, a full suspension eMTB for fun weekend riding and a Chinese powered £1000-£1500 bike for commuting. It needs to do 10 miles each way on max assist and prefer a standard pedal sensor to a torque sensor for this. For the eMTB I require a modern frame geometry, fox or rockshox suspension, a dropper post and at least 150mm of suspension travel. It would need a 500wh battery.
  13. Thanks, kinds ruled out the Shimano as it's not well enough proven. The more I read the more it seems to confirm to me that Bosch is still the best choice, for me at least.
  14. Thanks but I've not seen any decent manufacturers speccing the Bafang. I'm sure it's very good, had three of their hub motors and never had a problem with any.
  15. I'm considering a eMTB at the moment, and though it's pushing my budget I've looked at bikes with the following motors: Bosch CX Yamaha PW-X Brose Shimano E8000 From what I can gather the main features are: Bosch - most well proven and common, I've owned an older Bosch bike myself and never had any issues with it. Allegedly lowest torque but see below. Yamaha - slightly more torque than Bosch and more responsive at startup. However the battery is very large physically and more expensive than Bosch batteries. Brose - Claims the highest torque of all. Brose bikes seem to have the battery in the tube, but Brose don't make their own batteries, meaning future proprietary batteries. Some complaints the motor take a while to start up, a full crank rotation. A significant issue on a technical off-road climb. Shimano - Newest, I don't really know a lot about it. I've had a test ride on their earlier motor and it was Ok. Potential for Di2 integration but I'm not convinced I want Di2. So then I was watching YouTube videos on all these (not much on the Shimano) and I found a German video directly comparing the Bosch, Yamaha and Brose and the Bosch, with the fattest rider aboard, destroyed the others. Easily. He did seem to have a chain drop though. I can't speak German though so couldn't hear their conclusions. Here's a link to that video: Opinions?
