News: ‘Twist and go’ type approval guidance emerges

I am keen for this to continue to be an open debate (what this forum is all about after all) and I contacted the VCA and DfT for clarification and because I was concerned that a consultation was under way to set penalties for non-compliance while confusion on how to be compliant is rife. I did...

    pedelecs banned from UK event...

As it happens I've been in contact with their press office this morning asking for a statement on the reasons why and briefly explained the law on e-bikes and how they help people with heart conditions. I'm hoping they can clarify the reasons behind only allowing non-powered bikes on this ride...

Are trikes allowed to be dIscussed.

I have moved the thread to this section Brian (where others make recommendations and suggestions on brands/models to think about). I hope I understood you correctly in that's what you're after.. In the meantime all the very best with the treatment.

Pedelecs frum makes me feel sick

Correct - that's what we aim to do because that was what members previously wanted (a light touch on admin)...rather than we wade in at every opportunity. Long term members will probably know that but more recent ones may not (someone posted about 'weak moderation' for instance). Also when...

Has anyone tried to register an S-class in the UK?

I have not made any such decision. We changed this sub forum category a couple of days ago to ‘speed pedelecs and non-EAPCs’ in an attempt to clearly separate posts about EAPCs as they are generally understood to mean in the Electric Bicycles category (250w/15.5mph) and anything more powerful...

    New Name for Forum

Morphix. “there's the possibility of either Trading Standards and the Advertising Standards Agency involvement at the very least, and a substantal fine..they'd certainly have legal remit over a website like this and take an interest in the advertising aspect.” We don’t sell bikes. Trading...

    New Name for Forum

I’d like to respond to some posts on this thread: Flud “[This] Forum complicit in lawsuit” and “I could not care less about folk breaking laws. Its the advertising of it on here which will do the damage..” As Flecc pointed out, we can't be “complicit with any liability in something that is...

    UK electric bike usage law

Please note that the laws governing use of electric bikes on UK roads can be found here. In particular: Derestriction, ‘off-road’ switches or modes and dongles The Department of Transport say that electric bikes fitted with off-road switches or modes, that enable a bike’s motor to continue...

1-1-2016 Today's Change in the Law.

Yes I did see that categories M,N and O (NSSTA) were cars and trailers, so I raised that in my email. However just following up my Friday email on the phone now and while the person I got through to didn't have any knowledge of twist and gos, I was given another contact point so another email...

1-1-2016 Today's Change in the Law.

The Dft told Pedelecs last year that twist and gos wouldn't be considered motor vehicles needing registration etc. but they would need type approval: http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/news/twist-gos-require-type-approval-helmets-insurance-tax/ So I guess twist and gos with the ability to propel by...
