    New High End Electric Bike

We did the Optibike a few months ago - here

    Theory questions!

As Flecc says, cyclists try to avoid braking; I know I anlways have and I was reading the other day that Chris Boardman apparently won a tour de france stage without ever touching his brakes! However I agree there would be a little more scope for a utility electric cyclist in a hilly area.

    TongXin (a.k.a. Nano) motor project

It is hard to tell before it's built up. To reassure you, when I spin my Tongin motor by hand (by the wheel rim with the bike upside down) it actually doesn't spin for as long as the suzhou bafang in my wisper does. But it certainly has negligible resistance when ridden.

    Anyone we know??

I agree, there are some bad tempered drivers out there, so best not to take risks with them. There was a recent case in Scotland where a driver attempted to kill (in the court's view) a cyclist who had tapped his rear wing to protest at being cut up. The driver, who is now in prison, said...

    Wisper 905se

Thanks David, I now commute to work every day on a non-electric bike, whereas I used to do it about once every 6 weeks, and also do much more leisure riding, and am much fitter than I was a couple of years ago. I certainly wouldn´t have done it without having a motor to start me off, but now...

    Tongxin Information

Adding to my previous reply; another possible complication is that older drop handlebars might not have the space for brakes on the tops, so you might have to replace with new ones, which tend to be a bit wider. You might decide that the best option is not to bother with brake cut-outs - if you...

    Tongxin Information

One option for brakes would be to just fit the cut-out levers to your tops, as if they were flat bars. Your braking would then be from the tops only and your existing levers wouldn't work. Alternatively you could put them where your currnt levers are, if they were reachable in that form...

New State Of The Art Cycle Racks

Was it one of these, John?

    905se bottom bracket

Never gone looking down there! I'd expect it to be a cartridge and that it would last for years, bottom brackets on electrics obviously being subject to lesser forces than normal bikes.

    Hydraulic Disc Brakes -the Advantages?

All you could want to know about brakes is in this recent thread!

    Fitting a cycle computer

What type is it? I recently set up a Cateye Cadence on my bike. As Nick says, you need to play with the lateral orientation as well as the spacing to get it to read. I had to pack mine with old inner tube to get it close enough, and slide magnet up and down a bit for the lateral adjustment...

    Wisper 905se

SOLD to forum member - Wisper 905se I've decided to sell my Wisper 905se. Reason for sale is that, since buying it, I've got into cycling a lot more, got a lot fitter, and now ride a non-electric bike just about every day. For the last few months my wife has been the main user but she has...

    Shimano V Brakes

Yes, that's right. Then slide your new blocks in. Probably they will come with new pins, but sometimes the old ones fit in easiest! You might want to take the entire block off the bike to do this, as threading the pin through the new block can be a little fiddly.

    LiFePO4 battery cutout

The battery is fine! We went out for another ride today and my wife got 20 miles out of it before it cut out on a fairly steep hill. She'd got up three significant hills already - about 850 feet of ascent - and had focused on keeping the speed up on the hills (ideally at 8mph or higher, but...

Wisper 905 SE Sport for Sale

I dislike fat door pillars too, but it has to be said that accident rates have come down steadily over the years, despite more traffic on the roads. I guess other things like anti-lock brakes and better tyres have made a difference (I was going to say 'made an impact' but just stopped myself in...

    Mercedes Benz Hybrid

As it happens There's one on eBay now, described as a touring bike but not specc'ed as such. Innovative chainstay design cunningly adds frame weight while reducing strength in the name of design. May be at its best parked on the decking!

    Mercedes Benz Hybrid

No, not likely to be there! Look for a small box, most probably in the battery housing as Beeps says. The easiest way to derestrict is probably to find the controller and swap it out for one which isn't restricted - which you can buy cheaply on eBay.

Is it me or has the forum gone all funny?

Apparently. Although to be fair to him, while his final fling appeared to be an early morning one (I missed it), many of his posts were during the day when you'd have thought others would have been around. But perhaps they were out.

Electrification rear stear tandem - what I've learnt so you don't have to

Yes, sounds like a great project and well done for getting it working and using it. Bristol can be pretty hilly so if it works there it should be good in most places.

    Why can't you derestrict a Whisper 905e?

Alan, I'm pretty sure Jimmy got his from a well-known eBay seller called Kewin, whose eBay alias is eCrazyman. If you go to eBay and search for electric bike controllers you'll track him down. Send him an email saying you want a Suzhou Bafang controller for a 36v motor and I'm sure he'll be...
