    My Tongxin kit bike

Throttle set-up I said I'd post something on the throttle arrangements I'd decided to try out on this bike when I had had the chance to test them. I've now tested them and am very happy that they work well - in fact better than other electric bikes I've ridden. The arrangement is pretty...

what the best starter kit to fit to my bike

There's no link for those kits but search on this site and you will find various posts that point you in the right direction. However I checked Ping LiFePO4s on eBay this morning, and the price for a 10Ah / 36v -the smallest battery that makes sense - is over £200, so I'm afraid I can't see...

what the best starter kit to fit to my bike

Your best bet for a kit might be to approach Kewin / eCrazyman on eBay. He may be able to get you a Suzhou Bafang kit, for perhaps £150 delivered. A Ping LiFePO4 could cost you a similar amount - no, actually a bit more now the dollar has moved up vs sterling. This route would involve a...

what the best starter kit to fit to my bike

You could try this kit to retrofit to your posts: ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,............................................;;;;;;;;;:::::::::::::::: ---------------- Two serious points: your posts would be a lot easier to understand with the odd bit of...

    Wet weather tyres

Hal, Interesting that you should raise this; I've been thinking exactly the same thing over the last few days. In fact I was about to push the 'buy now' button on a new set of Marathon Pluses last night! I've got Continental Contacts on my commuting bike and they have been great over the...

    Bike on bike crash

On my way to work this morning I saw a collision between two cyclists - never seen that happen before. I was following them both, a few yards back. The one in front braked sharply to make a last minute turn and started to skid, and the chap behind him, who was pretty close, smashed right...

    My Tongxin kit bike

Yes - gone quiet. Do post if you get any news! I am a big fan of the Tongxin, but don't want to count too many chickens until it's done a few more miles!

    My Tongxin kit bike

Nick, Interesting; I'd missed Kewin's investigations into that area. I got mine from Brett. He posted on endless sphere that he had an alternative and I dropped him a line. So far, so good! It starts fine. Don't usually use the motor to start from standstill, but when I was testing it didn't...

    My Tongxin kit bike

Nick, It's a new controller, not from eCrazyman. What's the add-on board? Frank

    Two motors?

People have; there is a picture somewhere on here of a Lafree with at least two motors on it. Unlikely to be the most efficient way to power a bike, but perhaps one high geared and one low geared motor might be a reasonable way to get hill climbing and speed from a bike. No reason why you...

    My Tongxin kit bike

Thanks, John The battery is a 10Ah Ping LiFePO4. It worked well on my 5 mile test run. The basic spec is the same as before with a 270rpm motor overgeared in a 700c wheel. The only thing that is different is the controller. The Tongxin one was marked 15A and my new one is marked 18A. I...

    My Tongxin kit bike

I've got my Tongxin bike working again, and it goes beautifully! To recap, this bike performed excellently, but went through two Tongxin controllers in 200 miles so I gave up and took it apart. Because the Tongxin is the only motor in widespread electric bike use that does not use Hall...

    Cytronex Trek reliability

And I agree with that, Flecc - based on what I've read I think you are right to recommend a Panasonic as the best option for Poppy. As I hope was clear from my post, I think a less strong cyclist should not expect a Cytronex to give them as much benefit as stronger cyclists would experience.

    Cytronex Trek reliability

I believe that for a strong cyclist, the Cytronex would be a lot better on hills than the Wisper and for a weaker cyclist it may be slightly better. There are two key factors: motor gearing, as Phil mentions above, and also lower gears - the Cytronex probably has a bottom gear of around 20"...

    Wisper Motor

Phil, I would guess that the Wisper motor is the 22 or 24 inch version. The 20" version is in the Ezee Torq, and that is faster. The Suzhou Bafang site doesn't make it clear, but I would assume that the revs figure is normal operating revs, rather than unloaded revs. I would expect...

    Cytronex Trek reliability

Yes, Mark from Cytronex posted at length on this when the bike was launched. His views on the reliability of the Tongxin controller, in this application, have been proved right!

    Wisper Motor

Phil, I looked into this a while back. I clocked mine at 292rpm. Discussed on this thread Regards, Frank

Anyone fitted pitlock skewers to their wisper?

That's right - no lock is totally secure. Best to either park your bike where it is less likely to be nicked, or make it slightly harder to take than the next bike!
