    Recording Serial Numbers

You really ought to register your bikes(s) (and other valuable possessions) with serial numbers and pictures on a free web-site database such as www.immobilise.com so Plod can match any recovered items to you, the owner. Immobilise (and others, like Datatag) also offer RFID chips for stuffing...

Custom Batteries? Mate Icon Spare Battery Problem!!

Why don't you talk to someone like www.markshop.co.uk? They're main UK resellers of e-bikes very similar to the Mate in construction style/fabrication that also use very similar 48v systems e.g. Samebike 20LV and Fiido M1 Pro. If anyone knows of an alternative that might fit, they likely do.

Places to get a rear wheel made\rebuilt?

That number, as posted on their current website www.swiftyebike.com, is in fact disconnected. There is a new Southend number now listed for Swifty Customer Service which is 01702 208187.

    Mid , Hub, Front, Rear.....help!

You need to read this first: General Advice for Bike Choice When Doing a Conversion | Pedelecs - Electric Bike Community If you want practical help, you'll need to post links to retail sites showing your bike(s) and/or photos of your proposed conversion bikes(s). Very few here - if any - are...

Samsung - are we just paying for the name?

I've had an increasing number of bad experiences in recent years with buying "premium" known brands - including LG, a product that failed catastrophically straight out-of-the-box. To me, these brands mostly seem to thrive now on past glories and reputations rather than current merit. Countering...

Looking for his and hers folding ebikes around £800 max each

Loads of Chinese tackle on ebay for that money - but not necessarily with all the things you're looking for, like suspension (tricky) or a larger battery for 35/40 miles - or if a larger battery, a quick-ish charge. I suspect you'll need to compromise somewhere. Most have cable disc brakes as...

Samsung - are we just paying for the name?

That seems doubtful to me... DMEGC (like BMZ) principally make OEM/ODM batteries (of several chemistries) for many throughout the US and Europe. Their website even claims LG as a customer. DMEGC do seem to have a pretty big, swanky factory, they claim making 80,000 x 18650 cells a day (among...

Samsung - are we just paying for the name?

I'm really interested by that question. People pay a premium for branded cells - LG, Samsung, Panasonic, Sony etc - but these are just brands we are familiar with and trust in the Western world. There seem to be several brands known in the Eastern world that mean nothing to us, but held in some...

    Electric Bicycle for Deliveroo

From what you've said, HMRC won't allow you to claim the whole purchase cost. To do that you'd need to prove that the bike is used wholly and exclusively to conduct your trade - you'd not be allowed to use the bike for any personal mileage AT ALL. That might be (IS) very difficult to prove...

    Electric Bicycle for Deliveroo

Of all the things you've considered above, in your position, I'd agree with those thoughts the most. £2000-4000+ would be an awful lot to spend on a working/high-mileage e-bike, especially one that might need more specialist parts to fix... that's time off the road and not working. And I'd guess...

Bafang mid drive. Clunky gear change only when power on.

On my torque sensor Bafang mid-drive with gear-sensor, I don't find the gear sensor too helpful: The gear-sensor works fine on the flat, but on even a slight incline where you have gravity working against you and you're losing momentum more quickly, I find it reacts too slowly and cuts the power...

    Electric Wheelbarrow

Yeah... you read that right! Bafang have introduced an Electric Motor/Wheelbarrow wheel derived from their e-bike hub motors. The guys at Grin Technologies don't miss a trick (he's also building an electric sailboat using tech derived from e-bike technology). This first video is about the...

Where can I get a compatible replacement handlebar display for a Pendleton Somerby ebike? (King Meter 790 LED)

Halfords changed a lot of things in 2018/2019 with most of their range - likely due to the ridiculous import tariffs the EU introduced on Chinese made bikes at that time. They certainly changed a considerable amount in terms of electrics - for example their battery supplier. I'd wager the...

Where can I get a compatible replacement handlebar display for a Pendleton Somerby ebike? (King Meter 790 LED)

It's not that weird. Early Somerby's - being the age they are - probably used Analogue comms. I'd guess Halfords transitioned to UART digital comms as that became more fashionable. My guess is that the latest Somerby's probably use CanBus, 2-wire digital which is de-rigour for any e-bike today -...

EBCO Eagle LSL50 flashing battery icon

If you do a simple google on "TranzX BL-05" a company comes up in Stockton and/or Durham who claim to have fixed exactly your problem. I have no idea if their claim is genuine. It seems odd to me if, as you say, the controller is in the motor, but there is another controller of sorts in the...

Help! Bafang kit fitted, pedal stripped thread.

Pedals are stamped R (right hand) and L (left hand). One is a clockwise thread, the other counter clockwise. If you put them in in reverse, the thread undoes and the pedal falls off. If you put them in correctly, the action of pedalling actually tightens the thread, not undoes it.

Where can I get a compatible replacement handlebar display for a Pendleton Somerby ebike? (King Meter 790 LED)

Yes, I understand, but it's now become clear why Halfords wanted to look at your bike first: As the forum gurus here have said, and King Meter themselves confirm, there seem to be three core versions of the 790: UART, CANBUS, or Analogue... either with or without "light" or "walk" options... so...

Where can I get a compatible replacement handlebar display for a Pendleton Somerby ebike? (King Meter 790 LED)

At the risk of stating the obvious, have you actually asked Halfords? Many of these Somerby e-bikes must - given they've been sold in their (10's of) thousands over many years - be of an age where the failure of membrane switches has got to be a very common problem - and a repair Halfords must...
