    shopping list please!

36V 17Ah battery stores 612 Watt/hours of energy 48V 12Ah battery stores 576 Watt/hours of energy So the 36V 17Ah does have the edge, but not by a significant amount - you would get about the same mileage from either.

Help! 36v 17mah rear wheel conversion

Yes - my kits are 250W with 36V 17AH batteries, just like you have been looking at. At low levels of assist (1 or 2) the 17AH battery is good for 60 miles or more. If you start using assist levels 3 and 4 regularly, this will go down to 30 or 40 miles. The hydraulic brake sensor kits from Woosh...

Help! 36v 17mah rear wheel conversion

I have bought two of the Woosh XF08C kits : one for my own bike and one for my wife's. I cannot recommend the kit strongly enough : good quality parts, neat waterproof connectors, detailed instructions and an amazingly good pre- and after-sales service. The LHS pedal sensor is very small and...

    Flashing rear lights

As I understand it, flashing lights (front and rear) are fully legal in the UK, so long as they flash evenly. Flashing lights draw attention but to not give a following driver much idea of distance, so an additional bright fixed light is a good idea.

    What's the best Map App

I find Osmand very good. It uses openstreetmaps and has a cycle route overlay. The level of detail is a bit lower than OS maps, but often this helps because the route is clearer. Don't know if it is available on iPhones as I come from an Android household.

I must be doing something wrong ____but what

Had a similar problem with my wife's bike - the hole in the rim had a sharp edge. Even after smoothing the edge another tube failed, so I put a tight-fitting washer (cut from a piece of inner tube) round the valve stem and haven't had any problems since.

    Wheel security?

Ebay is full of them! Cheap and cheerful, but a lot more secure than a quick-release lever. The Pitlock type pictured above is better quality and since it is more expensive it is less likely for thieves to be carrying the correct key to undo it.

    Wheel security?

The cheap security skewers with 5-sided keys will stop the casual thief. There are better versions with individually keyed locking bits (at much more cost) but anyone that *really* wants your wheels will get them whatever you do.

    Lockdown

We live out in the sticks on a road which only serves a few dozen houses before turning into single -track with grass in the middle. Hardly any cars, but there is a continuous stream of cyclists and walkers!

Petition to legalizing throttle only eBikes for the disabled

This is an extract from a DfT Information Sheet about EPACS dated November 2015. - ________ Power assistance - "Twist and Go" Because of the particular benefits for elderly and disabled users, pedal cycles providing electrical assistance without use of the pedals - usually called "Twist and...

The fact that Hobby King sells fireproof bags for use when charging their batteries doesn't exactly fill me with confidence!

    New Conversion kit launching

In the old days choosing a kit was complicated as you had to asses power/hill climbing ability, battery life etc. etc. Much easier now - just count up the chain tensioners and if its got lots then you are onto a winner.

Hello from a Hampshire Classic Car Enthusiast

Try the Hub Cycleworks in Shirley Road, Southampton. They don't have a big range of ebikes, but the ones that they do can be tried out on Southampton Common away from the traffic. From a fellow Test Way-er. Make sure that whatever you buy can get you up Cow Drove hill!

Hub or Mid Drive? Any views?

Going back to Wisper's original question - The answer is blindingly obvious - especially with their experience of the great looking mountain bikes. It is all down to branding. Chain drive is pushed by big names that everyone has heard of, whereas hub drives are completely generic with Bafang...

    New bike

Doesn't company car = big tax bill? The violent bit certainly fits in with wayward youngsters, but perhaps not a very good example to them. I haven't ridden a Woosh bike, but we do have two bikes fitted with Woosh conversion kits which are brilliant (both the kits themselves and the backup...

    E bikes loads in halfords

I like the look of the Boardman hybrid with the Fazua drive! Can't justify one as I have a really nice bike with a Woosh hub drive conversion - but I still might arrange for a trial ride : half an hours tootle round Southampton Common would be fun.

    Rent an E-Bike for £40 a month

It can't work because it is MUCH too cheap. Say the bikes cost £800 each : at £40 per month it would take 20 months just to recover the purchase cost without giving any profit to the company. Either the people behind the scheme are stupid or it is some sort of scam/money-laundering game.

    Broken v brake tension rod

Don't see anything on ebay, so your choices are - Find an old-fashioned bike shop with a heap of duff bikes out the back which they can cannibalise or Buy a whole new brake assembly. Best to call it a "return spring" if you're trying to explain what you want without the pictures.
