    Kit fitting problem

Dear Blink My rim is out of position in the forks by 5 mm. I did not notice this when I assmbled the wheel. The hub flanges are offset from the forks by 19 mm on the power cable side and 26 mm on the other side. So there should be a 7 mm dish on the wheel. I have only got a 2mm dish. This will...

    Kit fitting problem

On my 8Fun kit the flats are on the non threaded portion only. Putting extra washers will move the locking washer off the flats. You will then have no anti-rotation protection on that side. I am about to measure my offset and post it in the next 30 mins regards paul

    Brompton electrification

Ahhhh its for a rear wheel. Will look on the site fr something for me. So you will be single (mechanical) speed. I was thinking of a front hub set up - its hilly around here. I was ging to buy a motor and lace it myself; but do not know what is the safest lacing pattern to use on a 20" wheel...

Dear Cwah You have laced your rim radially by the look of it. Whose motor and spokes did you use? I want an 80 mm motor for my Moulton - one day regards paul

    Kit fitting problem

Dear Blink Just checked my 8Fun front wheel. The motor flanges are offset; but the rim is central in the forks. This means that the wheel has been dished to put it central to the forks. How much out is your rim. I used a vernier and my rim was within a mm. of the fork legs. regards paul

    fitting a kit- any tips?

Dear Blink I bought a 8Fun kit with a bottle battery. I have been fiddling with bikes for years. If you have not got the tools required and experience the instructions you get are not clear. For example the pedelec sensor assembly would not fit any of the bikes I have without some modifiction...

New build - Old bike - GT LTS

Dear Wurley I am very interested in the lacing pattern you used. I have a front wheel with a motor. I am not too happy with the rim supplied and want to fit a Sun Rhino and some double butted spokes If you were going to build another wheel would you have a 1 or 2 cross pattern? Where did...

    Cannondale and 8Fun

Dear Hugh I have read that if you are using Aluminium fork then you should consider a torque arm. Basically this resists the rotation forces generated by the motor. This ensures the aluminium drop outs are not the only thing resisting this torque. Search for Torque arm on the forum. I do not...

    Cannondale and 8Fun

Dear Hugh I have just bought and fitted to my bike, see link below http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/electric-bicycles/11160-thorn-raven-now-converted.html I did not want to use carbon forks and so swapped for steel. Forks drop outs for normal bikes are about 9 mm wide. My hub mtor was 10 mm...

    Thorn Raven now converted

Hello Andy I read the bike magazines and the authors seem to be able to tell the difference between the tread pattern on the tyres. The Thorn is now so much heavier, also I have had to move the gear change to the LH side to get the throttle lever on, so its like a different bike. The carbon...

Chain keeps coming off front cog?

I have three or for chains for each bike. I rotate them every few hundred miles. The idea is to make sure that the chainwheels (they wear due to chain wear) Look at this link Chain Maintenance Sheldon's passed away a couple of years ago but he was bike mad.
