Bar-end mirror on a Kalkhoff Agattu? How 'tis done?

Well, I am pleased to announce that The Fitting Of The Mirror has been successfully accomplished. All it took was bringing the bike into a nice warm kitchen, a bit of faffing and a sharp whack with a hammer. Flecc, what's that interesting-looing device dangling under your bars on the left? Is...

....but you can only ride one at a time!

Ahem ... his 'n' hers Thorn Sherpas, my secondhand Agattu, the Lady Wife's brand new Agattu - and a Christiania. But I suppose strictly speaking that's four bikes and a trike? (I guess the Workcycles FR8 which is parcelled up in the hall waiting for the courier to take it away doesn't really...

Erm ... are they sure about that?

Her Ladyship's velocipede is your common or garden plain vanilla Panasonic, Sir, so I regret that we cannot enlighten you.

Oh dear. I don't know. How might I tell? Dan

Erm ... are they sure about that?

The Lady Wife's new Agattu arrived yesterday, with which she is delighted. She took the battery off the charger last night and put it on the kitchen table, and has been idly reading the small print on the side of the battery whilst chewing her way through her bowl of muesli. She has just...

Bar-end mirror on a Kalkhoff Agattu? How 'tis done?

Thanks once again gentlemen. I guess I need to try the Zéfal one again, preferably when my hands aren't frozen, failing which buy yet another Cateye product ... BTW Biged, I agree about the Doobak - great bit of kit, even though it's a PITA trying to find right-hand ones. Dan

Bar-end mirror on a Kalkhoff Agattu? How 'tis done?

I want to fit a Zéfal Doobak bar-end mirror to my Agattu. I've cut quite a neat hole in the end of the grip, but am up against two problems. One is that the ID of the bars seems to be a tad less than the mirror is intended for, and the other is down to the vast amount of material on the very...

    Top up or run down?

I'm certain the answer's on here and probably in several places too, but I've just spent well over an hour searching and my brain hurts now. I've learned all manner of really useful stuff but I still don't know the answer to one question, so here we go ... Where the Panasonic battery on my...

    Kalkhoff Agattu chain tensioner thingy

Yep, been there and done that with an old Dawes. The wheel's already back as far as it goes, so I need to have a really good look at all 3 sprockets ... Is anywhere in particular reckoned to be good for mail-order Agattu bits? Thanks Dan

    Kalkhoff Agattu chain tensioner thingy

Hey, thank you gentlemen. The reason for my concern is simply a very floppy chain (a good 40mm or so slack in the middle of the bottom run) and a tendency for the chain to jump what feels like one tooth if I fluff a change down whilst climbing a steep hill. Looks like it's time for a new chain...

    Kalkhoff Agattu chain tensioner thingy

Sorry - I'm on about the thingy with the plastic derailleur sprocket on it which lives near the motor sprocket. The chap I bought it off referred to it as the chain tensioner and I haven't yet had the chainguard off for a nosey at it. If that's the idler arm, my question now becomes what is...

    Kalkhoff Agattu chain tensioner thingy

Got myself a s/h 2010 Agattu earlier this week and am gradually getting to know it. One thing I'm puzzled about though is the chain tensioner. How much tensioning should it be doing? Or to put it another way, roughly how much play should there be on the bottom run with the bike at rest...

    Electrifying a Christiania cargo trike

Oh cheers chaps, that's all really useful stuff. Actually it's set me wondering if anybody over the Channel's cracked this. A rear wheel motor does seem to be the most elegant solution, but apart from having to convert to derailleur gears, I'd also have to come up with a way of fitting an...

    Electrifying a Christiania cargo trike

That's actually one option that's already occurred to me, but it's nice to know that it's occurred to somebody else too :)

    Electrifying a Christiania cargo trike

Thanks for that link Mussels. Crikey, what a lash-up those mounting brackets are! Seems to me that on the face of it there are two ways forward for me - see if I can get hold of a Panasonic unit as used on the Kalkhoff Pro-Connect then do some major alterations to the frame, or get a motor...

    Electrifying a Christiania cargo trike

I know that the makers are allegedly "working on" an electric version, but I have a feeling that if they are, it'll be to some cosmic timescale of their own. Meanwhile, I keep looking at ours and reading up on t'interweb about electric bikes and thinking "it has to be possible, the only...
