    Battery for Tongsheng 36v motor

Oh dear, another scaremongering ebike fire pic! 250w rated (as in continuous power) are perfectly able to develop peak powers well in excess of 250w as has been said but this is perfectly normal and legal so to do. Let's say there's a peak power of 800W (not likely BTW, but worst case and all...

    Bluetooth Dongle and APP?

I'd guess that that KT BT dongle will only communicate with KT controllers and displays - it's all down to the comms protocol used between the devices. I'm guessing this are not a universal device but something bespoke for the world of KT (Kung Teng) products.

ebike shop cuts prices 100s off

A lot of those bikes seem to use the Mahle Ebikemotion X35 motor/battery - I wonder if sellers are having a bit of a clear out in preparation for the X20 with higher torque and bigger battery option? The current X35 250Wh battery won't get you far unless you're ready to input a fair bit of your...

    Bluetooth Dongle and APP?

Ah, right, got you. I guess you're into software programming to take that sort of thing on? The display in the link looks like one sold as SW102 and on Endless Shere there's a number of posts where folks have adapted the display and firmware for BT working with the TSDZ2 mid drive motor.

    Bluetooth Dongle and APP?

What is the function of the BT dongle and plug-in to what and what functionality is needed from the app?

    Parallel batteries

@guerney - I'd be interested to see/know/where you've mounted your switches. If I were looking at switches (which has some appeal as in KISS) , I'd think about a change over switch with a centre off position to prevent accidentally nudge one of the 'off' switches back on again with the...

    Parallel batteries

Fair enough, nothing wrong with exercising caution if unsure. I asked in case there was a calculation and explanation behind those figures so I could check out someone else's reasoning against my own. Thanks for posting.

    Parallel batteries

I'm with you all the way on that one. Again, I'm with you on that one - I have a dummy load on my test rig which I will disipate any excess voltage/energy through if the battery voltage differentials are not within acceptable (to me) limits. Since my earlier post, after fully recharging both...

    Parallel batteries

Hi Benjahmin - how did you arrive at the 0.05v to 0.1v values?

    Parallel batteries

Thanks Matthew. I've now done two full discharge/charge parallel runs through my test rig and employ a 5A fuse too. On both occasions the voltage difference was around 300mV and nothing registered amp wise on the Watt Meter, even briefly. And of course the voltages were measured off load...

    Parallel batteries

A bit of an old post now Neal, but I've been reading through this post and the Schottky Diode Parallel Pack post (link) as I'm wanting the option of paralleling up my 'no name' 36v,10Ah (10s, 4p) bottle battery with my recently built 36v, 7Ah (10s, 2p) using LG M50LT 21700 cells. I'm looking at...

    Pendleton Somerby Derailleur Cassette

We had a Somerby for a while (and transformed the powered ride characteristics with a different controller - but not something the OP is likely to want to do but others might - LINK) and can confirm the rear sprockets are FREEWHEEL not cassette. A replacment freewheel is cheap so if the OP is...

    Not working on high mode

If the bike is working OK on low assist then one would assume the speed sensor is working, no?

    Not working on high mode

As has been said, it looks as though when the battery is under heavy load (ie riding in the hi assist mode) the battery can't cope. If this is the case and you were able to monitor the voltage at the same time, then you'd see the large volt drop. Whilst it might be a faff to wire a volt...

    Battery query

Micah Toll does a tear-down of a battery pack and comments on the points that he considers indicators of a good build in the YT clip HERE - he gives some useful tips on what he considers a good build although I'm sure others would have better ideas, but this guy has been in the battery building...

    Battery query

@matthewslack 's points are valid ones but depending on the physical structure of the battery, it might be possible to remove it from the hard case and cover it in shrink wrap instead. The hard case clearly offers protection to the battery but that doesn't necessarily mean that the battery...

Hydrogen Fuel Cell cars vs BEV's and Lithium-ion batteries Fire Concern

Thanks for that link - an interesting article. Of particular interest for this forum is the piece about ebike (and escooter etc) battery fires which can be found someway down the linked page. NYC passed a law that takes effect 29Aug23 mandating that: This quote was taken from here (link) In...

    suitable wing mirrors

I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but those..........! Anyway, putting my personal prejudice to one side, those long stems on the ebay mirrors will likely lead to a lot of 'mirror shake' as you go down our less than perfect roads. The bar end mirrors are the thing to go for and Cat...

    Repurposing li- ion (18650S - 2500mAh) batteries?

Hi Neal, I looked back to the discharge curves for the LG M50LT (care off Mooch) and I agree with your comment that capacity should be around the 8Ah So I popped down to the bike shed to look at my record sheet and durgh........ I'd recorded/measured 8.6Ah capacity NOT 6.8Ah as I initially...

    Repurposing li- ion (18650S - 2500mAh) batteries?

OK @Nealh , thanks for that very useful backstory to your BMS experiences. I had spotted the BeMuchSafer Balance BMS and as you say it is slightly larger and needs a separate charging port. I was happy with both those aspects as it'd fit my battery pack and running out a charge port connection...
