    Controllers to buy

If you are going to buy a new controller, I suggest getting the Julet cable from the same supplier with it. There are often slight differences between different "Julet" connectors which means they don't always fit nicely together. Another thing to bear in mind is that some controller to LCD...

    M3P batteries

Interesting. Full charge seems to go over 4V per cell, so might be able to use existing Li-ion chargers. https://www.takomabattery.com/performance-advantages-of-m3p-battery/

    Another Ebike conversion kit death

The listings are different for the 4.4Ah and the 3Ah models, hence the difference in price, but yes, someone might try and put a lot of these in parallel, <£140 (as they do a bulk discount) would still be cheap for a 30Ah pack. Probably would need 10 Schottky diodes though to ensure some level...

My guess is what they have done is use 3000mAh cells, then there are 10 of them, so they came to the conclusion it must be 30000mAh :)

Does that even have a BMS? Looks like plain shrink wrapped cells. In my very early days of messing about with ebikes, I made a 10S 1P pack from cells I had lying around while I was waiting for the pack I'd ordered to arrive. I dutifully put a BMS on it and connected it up the the bike. It...

True, but I think these guys who want to go around on illegal 2000W motorbikes and pretend they are Pedelecs are not going to be thinking too much about warranty :) Most people on here who want to open up batteries are usually those who have a pack that is not working properly, but is outside...

I would not recommend going back to lead acid, they still can be dangerous. You've also got the extra weight and reduced range/cycle life - not factors likely to help increase Pedelec use. LiFePO4 is probably the way to go.

Won't be long before they're doing this to off road e-bikes too

If you have a derestricted e-bike, if caught, you will be done for not having insurance. You can only ride on private land with the owner's permission. There are quite a few here who run their bikes unrestricted off road on public land. Ok e-bikes don't make a lot of noise, which is a big...

    hidden throttle gas needed?

Things to bear in mind...the 250W Max is continuous output power, not input power. A lot of motors only have 80% efficiency at best and a for quite a bit of a motor's output profile, efficiency is a lot lower than this. So the input power will be significantly higher than 250W to get a 250W...

Something else I forgot to mention. If you change the BMS in your battery pack, you also need to look at your charger. I think it's not a bad idea to do this anyway, as I've seen a lot of chargers (even from well known suppliers) being sold that supply more than 4.2V per cell, which is the...

    hidden throttle gas needed?

Here's a question for the legal experts. If you have a UK pre 2016 e-bike that has a legal throttle fitted due to "grandfather rights", what happens if you take it to the continent, would you be breaking the law there? Also, say you get an @wisper bike with a legal test approved throttle, will...

    hidden throttle gas needed?

Seems a bit pointless to ask for a "secret" way of hiding a throttle on a public forum :) Maybe you are actually police phishing for ideas on how it's done? ;-)

I also need to mention, before you do any mods to your pack make sure it is discharged first. Even then, treat it as you would an unexploded bomb. Work on a clear, insulating surface. Keep all metal tools etc tidy and out of the way. Don't work on batteries if tired or distracted etc. Do the...

I'm a bit short of time this week, so I can't go into too much detail. But if you are wanting to modify your pack to improve it, here are a few pointers. @Nealh should be able to advise on a good choice of BMS. I have bought some, but I think he has tried a much wider range. I like to get...

    Battery recommendation for Cyc motor

Thanks for clarifying. Trouble is there are too many idiots out there who think it's fine to do those things on the street with what is essentially an illegal motorbike, which makes life difficult for the rest of us who want to operate within the law as best we can with our pedelecs.
