    Bosch or Bafang?

I don't know how hard it is to do in a Covid world but I found test riding different bikes significantly changed my pre conceived opinions when I bought my first ebike in 2011 and I ended buying a completely different bike to the one I thought I was going to. I still have it and enjoy riding it...

    Chain jumping off front sprocket

You need to do the adjustments mentioned above, and a chain guide will also help, but on a single chain ring set up you could change to a narrow wide chain ring which I have found in the more extreme off road environment, ie mud water, rocks, steps, lots of bouncing around, completely stops your...

    Home grown retro re-(e)cycle

Looks lovely, reminds me of the first flat tank motorcycles of the turn of the last century.

    Best puncture resistant tyres?

Continental Tyre Feedback Hi, sorry to be slow, I have some Continental Cross King 2.2 Protection tyres fitted to an acoustic mountain bike I bought some years ago on a ride to work scheme and have found them to be a very good cross country mountain bike tyre. I run them with tubes and I have...

    Best puncture resistant tyres?

How is your tubeless setup coping with the thorns BazP. Have you noticed the sealant doing its job if you pick up a thorn. I now have a tubed tyre at the front and a tubeless tyre at the rear. I now carry those little rubber plug things that you use to assist sealing a larger puncture on a...

The tale of a £100 second hand electric bike.

FA Cup. £100 ebike wins by a head Another infamous underdog win. Wimbledon v Liverpool in 1988. Last night I finished five days of late shifts. The Haibike was off the road (again!) needing a new rear mech. I had hoped it would arrive but on the eve of my first shift on Wednesday it had not...

    Best puncture resistant tyres?

BazP the rear wheel I had the same problem with was an Alexis tubeless ready rear wheel with exactly the same symptoms you describe. An absolute nightmare to break the bead of the marathon plus mountain bike tyre away from the rim.

    Best puncture resistant tyres?

I have just read the BazP comments and had the same issues on a tubeless ready wheel. The wheel I had seemed designed to grip the bead of the tyre and was a complete pain to remove a marathon plus mountain bike tyre from. So probably marathon plus mountain bike tyres that are not designed to be...

    Best puncture resistant tyres?

I rode my bargain basement £100 second hand 2011 rear hub Oxygen 20 miles to work and back last night that I bought out of the classified section on pedelec after a August summer holiday around September 2018. That bike had 500 miles showing when I got her and came with marathon plus road...

    Best puncture resistant tyres?

I have just changed tack on the rear of my hard tail Haibike and fitted a 2.35 heavy duty larger volume down hill style tyre and gone tubeless. The idea is to retain puncture resistance and have better performance off road and be able to run lower pressures for a less harsh ride and be kinder...

Well my rear mech did arrive pronto..... I thought I was going to miss out on some cross country rides to work with five late shifts that started on Wednesday the 11th. But the new rear mech arrived in the post on Wednesday morning. I rode my rear hub road bike to work that day but managed to...

    Cycling in the snow

Picture from my ride to work in March! 2018. Great fun. 12 miles cross country.

That's a fair mileage Dom T, and I don't think I have done many more if at all. One of the bikes I use a lot for errands, shopping, chemist, dentist etc, does not have any form of mileage recorder, so it is hard to tell. My total mileage for any given year is driven by how much commuting by...

I must admit Dom T that I was lacking a little confidence before tackling this ride having ridden a bit less than normal due to mechanical and electrical issues with both the bikes I now ride to work and back and also having allowed myself to get a bit heavier than ideal. However I must have a...

Acoustic Set Well the Haibike is out of action waiting for a new rear mech to arrive through the post, and I wanted to ride off road. I have been off work for 6 days and return tomorrow for 5 days of late shifts. This would normally mean using the Haibike to enjoy a lovely cross country route...

Bosch Active line ECU? Where is is?

I have had two chains break on my Haibike Yamaha crank drive and one on my old Oxygen rear hub bike, so it can happen. With the right tools it is reasonably simple to connect a broken chain back together to get you home. My old rear hub bike due to its age has a unrestricted throttle, so that...

    Old Oxygen Emate Throttle

I bought a Yamaha RD400F for £770 brand new with rear sets, clip ons and expansion chamber exhausts with the original parts included when I was 19 in around 1979. Fantastic fun but lucky to survive that little episode.

    Old Oxygen Emate Throttle

New Throttle Fitted and all working as it should. So chronology and thoughts Monday 02 11 20 The super sub £100 Ebike, David, causes consternation when whistled onto the field of play and immediately going lame and necessitating me taking the car to work. Just not what we expect. The throttle...

    Old Oxygen Emate Throttle

I did a sublime 20 mile return trip to work and back yesterday with the bike behaving just as it should do with the throttle disconnected. I do find this a great bike to commute on the road, carrying two heavy panniers and maintaining a very good speed. As a larger 59 year old male in a job...
