Which Bikes to buy.....And Which to Avoid ?......

I think you answered your own question. In my opinion it is best to avoid closed proprietary systems with hard to replace parts.

Nfixed ebike kits based in London

Actually it sounds good. Just to good to be true. I see why AI running investment fund might buy large quantities of those bikes. All what they need for it to work is perpetuum mobile patent. On the other hand battery I have already has "no need to charge" mode. Other two modes are "in need of...

4 dead after battery causes fire at New York City e-bike shop that spreads to apartments

I keep batteries in the shed. I prefer to risk them being stolen than to risk a fire in my house.

Nfixed ebike kits based in London

In short it is much more effective to have road bike without "no need to charge" kit installed. As added bonus one can save 1k. But there is a good chance we are missing something and they could get next Nobel price.

Regenerative braking might top up battery slightly. There is no way you can fully charge battery with that. ...unless I am missing something.

I am afraid cyclist might need to pedal more to charge battery, so it opposite to pedal assist.

...and hub motor makes it easier to change gears, so compromise can be made on front and rear mech. I still think kit offers better value for money, but it is a good ready made alternative for those who are not keen on DIY. I like front suspension, but you are right - fork on this one is not so...

Looks like a very decent bike at fantastic price. Brakes would be my first upgrade followed by suspension seat post and better saddle. Looks like a no brainer to me.

Been there, done that... It is just a lot of unnecessary effort and not always effective. I very much prefer open architecture systems.

I guess it is a bit like me supporting a football team. They want me to support them and their high salaries while they don't support me. BTW is this company as British as Swytch? I couldn't agree more, but I would love prices to be more accessible. For now I think even chinese kits are...

    Swytch battery DIY upgrade

    1. Making DIY battery while you can't measure a simple voltage is a bad idea. 2. High capacity, heavy battery on handlebar is another bad idea. Best way to move forward is to buy a proper kit and don't look back IMHO.

    Neodrive conversion kit

I must admit that torque sensor and regenerative braking are interesting. However it is still more expensive than other kits, even at this strange outlet. Battery is twice as big as on my bike and yet it doesn't offer extra capacity. Motor is huge, heavy and ugly. I think it is a step in wrong...

How I converted my bike to a trekking/comfort bike

Yes, you lost a lot of WOW factor there, but who cares? After all it is better to have comfortable bike and ride on it rather than have sexy bike in a shed. On other hand you gained a lot on better fork and chainring. It is surprising how many people go to bike shop and end up with aggressive...
