    Puncture proofing tyres

My tyres have now covered 3038 miles since I put them on, on 5th January 2017. They are Specialized Crossroads Armadillo 650B 27.6” Wired Clincher Tyres in 1.9” width. They are very tough and look like they can last a lot longer. More wear apparent on the rear than the front as you would expect...

How now brown cow? Last ride to work before three days off. 102 miles in four days and my legs are feeling it a bit. 68% battery left after my 16 mile cross country ride to work and 61% battery left after my 10 mile ride home and it can have a rest now for a few days.

Took a couple of pictures on my 14 mile off road route to work. The exercise left me feeling wonderfully relaxed for the first few hours of my shift. I started off in a slight drizzle wearing requisite water proofs, then the rain stopped so I took the jacket off, then the sun came out so I...

    Death by dangerous riding introduced

I had a near miss with a student absorbed on her phone stepping from the pavement straight out in front of me. As the gradient on that bit of road is gently downhill I had the motor off, but was travelling around 20mph. There was no chance to use the brakes, just make a slight swerve, shout...

Strange creaking noise when pedalling Scott/Bosch fs mtb.

It can be very hard to locate the causes of these annoying noises, and easy to assume the worst that your main bearing is going. Definitely do all the easy tightening of bolts first, seat bolts, etc. Main bearings on a crank drive bike really should not go until you have covered quite a few...

I must admit that I chickened out of my ride to work early this morning as the roads away from my house looked really treacherous. I thought they might improve once I got on a slightly more main road, but took the car and I was glad that I did as all the roads all the way to work were covered...

Haibike SDuro Hard Seven Yamaha rough bottom bracket

I hammer mine (Yamaha PW sDuro hard seven) to work and back and my bearing developed play at 6000 miles. Due to my relatively high milage use I managed to do this just on the two year warranty point and my dealer was very good and replaced the motor. I am still hammering to work and back on my...

    SRAM EX1 first impressions review

I have been thinking about putting a sun race wide ratio 9 speed cassette on my bike. My bike is a nine speed set up now but I have been using cheap shimano alvio 12/36 cassettes with a 42 tooth chain ring. I do a lot of miles commuting to work and back and these cassettes cost less than £20...

    Best-laid plans

Killing a new fully charged 500Wh battery in 16 miles is pretty impressive. That must have been the type of gluppy viscous sticky and treacherous mud that no one in their right mind would have attempted riding their bike through! Knowing how much you like bike maintenance and cleaning I am...

My above post was slightly misleading. I am undoubtedly more tired after work for my ride home. However I allow more time for for xc route to work and ride in a very different way. I ride in eco and for a few sections where gradients allow have the motor off. Off road I am enjoying my...

Lies Damned lies and statistics 16 miles off mostly off road route to work used 32% of my battery giving a theoretical range of 50 miles from my 400Wh battery. 10 miles home on the road used 40% giving a theoretical range of 25 miles

That looked fun argoose. Following my off, I did a 24 mile round trip to work including 14 off road miles yesterday with no ill effects so I must have pulled rather than torn my hamstring and it is improving very quickly. It is obviously a bit tight and painful on occasion but I notice this...

Thanks for your good wishes. I do some walking with my son but had also thought about YOGA to supplement my cycling but had not got further than the thinking bit. This might be the spur required.

Pride comes before!!! I had a bizarre slow speed slide ending in a fall to my left hand side on my ride to work on Sunday afternoon where I managed to trap my foot in my left hand pedal and in so doing over extend my left leg and damage the upper part of my ham string. I had fallen off at...

Where do you charge your battery?

My first electric bike had a battery behind the seat post and it was too much hassle to remove it so I charged it on the bike in the garage. My second bike with Yamaha system has its battery inside the triangle and is easy to remove and I always do bringing it into the house. There are some...

Lovely ride to work today. 16 miles of great tracks in bright sunshine. Field at Lower Eashing Shackleford Heath Bit of Surrey mud at Redhill Plantation that I skirted around the left hand side of but I am sure EddiePJ would have ploughed through the middle of. Also to show EddiePJ that my...

Looks quite slippery. I guess if I was out on my old Honda twin shock I would be running my tyres at anywhere around 8 to 12psi with security bolts. I suppose your tubeless oversize tyres can be run at pretty low pressures.
