The liquid metal battery cures the energy storage part of the electrical conundrum at a utility scale level. The materials are cheap, the chemistry is well understood, and the efficiency is superb. Not suitable for mobile use , but at static sites , excellent.

Once one has methane that can also be used as a fuel cell material. I see methane as a lower pressure method of carrying hydrogen. The carbon holds the energy rich hydrogen atoms

The equation changes totally with Cryogenics. .. a litre of liquid is 1000 litres of gas. . There is a point in which we agree.. that the West does not get to dictate to the Far East or India the path they must take .

Yes I have been in Saigon and the range of machines is bewildering.as is the real poverty. And the air quality is appalling from the two stroke motors. However there are intermediate solutions. One alternative which seemed ideal for these, and cheaper to implement, was air pressure motors...

The liquid metal battery has the potential to electrify railways in exactly the same way as a diesel electric locomotive., So yes I could see those hauling stuff across Alaska or Siberian railways. There is no advantage in going Hydrogen ICE, the advantage is going Hydrogen EV . There is the...

I think you are missing the point on this one. The current vehicle is a van.but a car is equally doable. The reason to go for hydrogen in an internal combustion engine is arguable,..but this is a fuel cell,..direct conversation to electric power, without combustion so zero emissions , no NOx ...

Back on the EV topic. Opel have a very interesting van . It contains a relatively small Li ion pack, ..good for 60 miles, and a hydrogen fuel cell and a few cylinders of hydrogen gas. The idea is that the fuel cell continually keeps the battery charged, the battery has the oomph to drive the...

The French have loads of exemptions , OAPs, infirm etc etc . I could have looked at the form, but I sent it back, as I do annually. In Ireland, concessions are dealt with DSP ..Dept Social Protection ... Its name keeps changing . Obviously I can watch UK NI stations without payment , from my...

Look this is very much a side issue, but even leaving that loophole is pernicious. The PO has to prove it was used , rather than the claimant proving it has not. In an analogous way, I have probably 2 dozen knives in my house, I cannot prove that none was ever used to commit an illegal act. The...

According to some of the websites and fora, that part is somewhat obscure. There are claims made that if you don't actually view broadcasts , no fee is applicable .. and with TVs being used as computer monitors. Incidentally the worst TV licence defaulters were Northern Ireland . There was...

Licence fees for state broadcasting channels is the norm for Europe. The UK seems cockamamie to me. Actually I remain confused whether it is mandatory or not. Websites and forums are contradictory. The French model is simple. ..any property with at least one device capable of receiving a...

How much grease in a standard (non ebike) hub

The purpose of the grease is just to Lubricate. It is not a dust shield . The more that is packed, the greater the viscous power loss.

The clearest illustration of this I came across was a visit to a French Cruiser ..I think it was the Clemenceau in I think Bordeaux about 20 years ago. When first commissioned it had if I recall a crew of 2500. It would have had about 800 bunks. Within 5 years they brought it back, ripped...

Actually the answer is YES. I have a number of Satellite boxes and the older terrestrial digital boxes in my attic, which do have Scart sockets and UHF modulators. Last week I was playing around with one ,and feeding Scart into a combo TV monitor. The majority of course will not do BBC HD ...
