    Brexit, for once some facts.

Again due to the actions of this dumb government and Brexit. In order to get the EU trade agreement, we conceded that we would obey the orders of the European Human Rights Court, something we hadn't had to do previously. Hence the ECHR being able now to stop this flight. Progessively we are...

It's truly pathetic, 7 on a Boeing 767 that can seat hundreds. Yesterday on the news I saw the accommodation waiting for them, hotel quality individual rooms, and presumably they are going to be fed and kept for a considerable period at least. I can even envisage this encouraging poverty...

Question on smoothness of power output of electric motor - Wisper 705SE

Largely true these days, but Germany's Heinzmann were the first in the world to produce a commercial hub motor, back in 1922. They are still going, LINK .

Is there a gearing comparison table for hub Vs mid-drive?

Ah yes, Clarke Lane, actually an access only road for safety reasons, but I have ridden up it. It's far more wicked than Titsey Hill since it cuts directly across the contours at right angles, but those two and Hesiers Hill are the most scary in the North Downs. In the 2000s there was one chap...

Question on smoothness of power output of electric motor - Wisper 705SE

You're right Andy, it is that bikes with wiring festooned around them are recipes for trouble. And of course it is mostly hub motor e-bikes with low grade add-on pedelec sensors that can end up like this due to all the separate components. .

Question on smoothness of power output of electric motor - Wisper 705SE

As far as I am concerned, everyone is entitled to have and practice the own preferences. But as for the Dutch and Germans, who have long designed and bought more pedelecs pro rata to population than any other country, being simply not fully informed about about pedelecs, really! Their...

Is there a gearing comparison table for hub Vs mid-drive?

They still have their fans and that 3 speed hub was the most efficient of all the three speed hubs. The concept is ok and there is a demand, it just needs someone to design a cassette hub gear that is both tough and slick changing. It shouldn't be that difficult, it is only two gears after...

Is there a gearing comparison table for hub Vs mid-drive?

SRAM used to make the solution for your problem, their DualDrive. It was a cassette with 8,9 or 10 sprockets, coupled with a three speed gear hub, the latter replacing the triple chainrings up front. Sadly they discontinued them several years ago:

Not very relevant for consumer goods though. Their mistake was making themselves dependent on the West for some consumer goods. They partly learnt that after acquiring Crimea but soon offset those western sanctions with their own production. I've no doubt they'll manage ok again...

Aeroflot and any other Russian flights are now banned from our western airports anyway, so it isn't anything likely to trouble them much for a while. And don't forget that their ally China not only flies 737s, they build them under licence too, so no problem getting spares. .

National government policy interference again, in preference to local knowledge. Here in South London, having dug up all the tram lines by the early 1950s, we've got them back again with a new tram system, spanning Merton (Wimbledon) in the West to Beckenham in the East, covering four boroughs. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Do you really think the country that led in the space race systems and is still far ahead in their reliability cannot cope with such relatively simple problems? And as I said, switching to their allies China and India gives them all they need in automotive terms, including the lead in...

Propaganda. The problem is simply that Autovaz, the modern Lada producer, made themselves too dependent on Renault for certain parts. But it's an easily soluble problem for a big advanced engineering country like Russia. Little Cuba has managed to keep American cars running for over half a...

No, they were yellow with a brown waist lines, run by Bournemouth Corporation. Known locally as the silent service, they ran for some 36 years. Sad and lacking foresight that so many rushed to get rid of them, from places as far apart as Newcastle, Llanelli, Belfast etc. They're just what we...

No problem. :) Where I used to live at one time, all the municipal buses were trolleybuses, quiet, very powerful and connected to the mains all the time. The chumps got rid of them in 1969, in favour of diesel buses. I bet they are kicking themselves now! .
