    Chain skipping in high gears

Maybe as it is under warranty it is in your interest to take it back, rather than fiddle with it, the more so IMO not really understanding the finer points of how these function. If screwed up initially, then that's ramifications are down to their account, up till you get involved.

Desirability of putting battery into sleep mode?

Thanks vfr400 for your response and I understand the argument you are making. However, presently we have what we have, and need to decide how we best live with that. I suspect because they provide the provision to override the auto sleep mode, is because doing that is desirable, and that stacks...

Desirability of putting battery into sleep mode?

General question; with an e-bike featuring a design that if the bike is unused for a period, the battery auto goes into "sleep mode", or can be manually switched into this mode. What are the arguments for and against routinely manually switching into sleep mode if not sure the bike will be...

Warned off converting bikes by bike shops

In respect to workshops as opposed to sales, its probably just mirroring the franchised domestic vehicle trade? The electronics and software in main line products, is becoming so specialised that involvement is only at plug in diagnostic level. The need to know the nuances of the electrical...

Warned off converting bikes by bike shops

If conventional bikes, type to type, are structurally etc fine for conversion to e-bikes, it does beg the question why widely in the e-bike market, the offerings do seem to me to be heavier that just the motorisation components add? I am not saying the conventional bikes are not suitable, it...

    Help! Can I solder 12awg too a 8awg or 10awg wire?

On my car I have wiped the soldered up joint with an antirust fluid before heat shrinking the sleeve over it, so there is no room for moisture to ever wick into it. I use Supertrol which I have to hand, though I feel Waxoyl would be nearly as effective. Moisture and traces of residual fluxes are...

    Bike Locks

I noticed one of these on an e-bike that was also chained to some railings, but it had the pair of keys as delivered dangling from the AXA Defender!!!! The devil in me thought, I could lock it and be off with both keys, that will cause a bit of "fun", well of course I would, not but I don't...

    replacement pannier rack

Unless overloaded beyond the maker's loading specification, is it not simply a design issue as the break is at a designed in weak point? That is a highly stressed location which has already been weakened by the manufacturing deformation of the tube, and the piercing. This, coupled with its...

Help!....Replacement crank bolt for Bosch line+...Raleigh Motus GT

Except that the "proper" bolt in this case is an M10 "Superfine" 10mm x 1 mm pitch, not the normal M10 "fine", which is 10mm x 1.25 pitch. Great if you can find a source of the correct size bolts in one or two off, rather than a minium order, typically with such specials.

    Bike wrap £160 worth it?

It comes as quite a surprise to hear most people get their bikes of any brand or type "wrapped", I never have nor known colleagues doing so.

    Kalkhoff or NO!

It is true that the frame needs to be designed to suit a Gates belt drive because these belts can't be broken, as chain can and as some other belts can. Whilst an irritant in increasing complexity, it is also an advantage as the belt has no "weak" link. The benefits of the Gates belt drive are...

Nexus 8 or the new Nexus 5-E?

The Nexus 8 has a reported 3.09 range ratio, so wider than the new Nexus 5E; Using our Agattu Nexus 8 bike I however, struggle to recall occasions I drop to a lower gear than #4 and live in a quite hilly area. The Nexus 8's range ratio is no different to a basic 34/11 cassette used with a single...

Nexus 8 or the new Nexus 5-E?

A lot to like about it, it brings discs that other people rave about though my rims have been no area of concern. The BMC has a smaller battery, but possibly one more generally replaceable than the Kalkhoff specific one which is eye wateringly expensive if ever needed. I prefer a city bike to...

Okay, should be a lovely machine.

Nexus 8 or the new Nexus 5-E?

Are you sure the Kalkhoff Agatta 1.S has the new hub, this link states it has the Nexus 7? IMO because of its internal clutch technology it makes it the least suitable of the Nexus range for E bike adoption. Ours is the 2016 Agattu with Gates belt driven Nexus 8, but with the ill reputed...

Nexus 8 or the new Nexus 5-E?

A very interesting and relevant question that has got me doing a bit of online ferreting. I am left thinking it is primary for two reasons, one being more rugged the other to facilite what is likely to be a growing requirement to have autochanging. This IMO is a relevant link. Here it claims...

ebike motor kit for a wooden bike

It is the use of "wood" that intrigues me the more. Even in countries where just about everything that can be is made of wood or cane, it was not apparent there to me that wood was the material of choice for a bike. Is it the exceptional challenges it presents that floats your boat, not that it...

    Nano-Septic Handlebars

It begs the question, was that "before" or "after"? Remembering my days on my tools a pre wash was often a requirement, so twice the need faced in later years.

The Reality of Owning and Maintaining a Pedelec

Four years in, the only cost over aquisition has been electricity to charge the battery, at the most about 8 pence a time.
