    Rear lights - recommendations?

The UK legal road vehicle regulations *, even for the higher intensity use for stop lights has a maximum of 60 Candelas, a lower value of 20 Candelas. Viewed directly from the rear a bike using a 1800 Lumens light would be rated as giving 980 Candelas, over 16 times the legal maximum light...

    Rear lights - recommendations?

If you throw out so many Lumens of rear light it dazzles oncoming drivers that brings its own serious safety risks, the real purpose of rear lighting is to warn them not blind them.

    Rear lights - recommendations?

On my bikes I have a Moon Sirius and a Sirius Pro, the latter seems unduly over complicated in the modes it offers. Both are excellent as rear lights and on say a day light flash routine, a charge lasts so long I forget how long to comment. The basic Sirius has in the kit a clip fixing option...

    Legal Pitfalls

It is IMO the civil claims ramifications, for say 24 x 365 of lifetime care labour & equipment costs plus compensation damages that they are likely to be more than a little concerned about covering. Few of us I suspect could shell out the cash for just employing three carers for the whole of...

    Legal Pitfalls

IMO that is dead easy to understand, they could otherwise face the outcome of any litigation, when & if the courts ever had cause to rule on this can of worms; say a multi million £ injury claim. Whilst I can see deep upset for many here if the UK courts ever tested the law, at least then the...

    Legal Pitfalls

My take on this; Should the user of a doctored e-bike, on public access areas be facing litigation for causing life altering injuries to another party, I have my suspicions being able to outsmart the intent of e-bike laws, would be something of a secondary issue in the scale of things. But, one...

Okay, I stand corrected, it is however not a feature on any Presta valved tubes we have ever had, over many decades.

    Presta or Schrader...which is best??...

Brompton, well mine, with the very small air capacity tyres though use Schrader valves, perhaps they are simply not yet up to speed on this? Could be why they typically come with a pump, apart from the intro model? IMO, no valve should leak air, in the Schrader case simply exchange the core if...

Help please ebike insurance Raleigh Motus Tour hub

Also, battery capacity is not quoted in Watts, Watts is "power". Battery capacity is quoted as Watt.hour which is the amount of "energy" it could hold. The measure of so much power for so long a time, just as your home mains energy is quoted kWhr.

    Another Ebike conversion kit death

The released energy still has to go somewhere, not many domestic homes have a conveniently located metal sand tray to store a charging battery's bag in. All it appears to do positively is contain the battery and resulting debris, useful but that is only part of the basic issue.

E-scooters 'are five times safer than bikes' - Study by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents

"Dreams" yes, as they are not "illegal to use", just illegal to use as some buyers, I suspect nearly all, choose to use them. The nearly total lack of enforcement of the law on illegal users has IMO lead to now an uncorrectable situation, well any widely acceptable one.

Makes no material difference really, what is lacking is any significant longitudinal structural member. Probably an easy DIY addition?

2" tyres are hardly "skinny", and going narrow is potentially better for the 95% road part, without being too challenging on any off-road section that one is likely to use for a regular long-distance commute; or at least any state of off-road section I would integrate into such a commute. I...

E-scooters 'are five times safer than bikes' - Study by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents

IMO there is no lack of "clarity" on "private electric scooter laws". surely the legality is clear enough, just everywhere the laws are both flaunted and ignored? If the laws on use of private scooters need changing is quite a different question; again, IMO I can't see with the history of...

Probably his breeding days gone! Reminds me, though now in my eighties, as a child miss judging the spacing of two bollards on an inter estate walkway. Jammed handle bars and a trip down the crossbar.

If he or she misses seeing that, what chances of them seeing pedestrians and children? Should have gone to "Specsavers". All said, I do hope they are not seriously hurt, but temporarily pained enough to be more aware in the future, even if for others safety.

Underlying it all is I suspect a government and general desire so keen to reduce car use, that genuine statistics can be ignored if they paint a negative picture. Right initial intent, wrong methodology in achieving it, on many counts.

What's this particular "single point failure" issue anyway? Chainless bikes is how the whole cycling thing started Link "A", and is still going strong LINK, It's not a complete "failure", other than one of ingenuity.;)
