Torque or speed sensor - preferences?

I thought turning a throttle did just that, assist  as I've said several times now a good system will allow you to pedal as you would on a normal bike at any speed in the assist range. No drama's at all, even in full power. again that's exactly what a good system does. I take it that...

Torque or speed sensor - preferences?

By rights I should be a throttle user right now. riding the bike is actually keeping me out of that situation. Lets hope we can all avoid the need for a throttle while we're still able to get out.

Torque or speed sensor - preferences?

Mike I thought I'd need a throttle too, my first e-bike had one, but after a bit I realised it was more comfortable to soft pedal than just sit there. The Bosch goes really well imo on soft pedalling, but other bikes go A LOT faster for low effort. Luckily there is a choice of system, and most...

Torque or speed sensor - preferences?

Summed up well. I'm a very reluctant pedelec rider, I wouldn't be riding one if I wasn't ill, I'd ditch one in a nanosecond if I could.

Torque or speed sensor - preferences?

I doubt that very much. Have you ridden a Bosch equipped bike?

Torque or speed sensor - preferences?

I agree a throttle is handy, but when you need to use it all of the time because the system doesn't behave in the way you would like it then imo, it becomes a faff. Those who want a pedelec that is like an ordinary bike, want it to behave in the same intuitive way a normal bike responds to the...

Torque or speed sensor - preferences?

Like I said you're having to make a crude system work with an added complication. If you've not ridden a Bosch, or perhaps an Impulse and Panasonic you won't appreciate how well a good pedelec is, so won't quite realise what you're missing. That's not to dismiss those who prefer a bike with a...

Torque or speed sensor - preferences?

What a complete faff having to use a throttle on a bicycle. They're poles apart. However I appreciate that some like the added complication required to try and match a much more sophisticated system with a crude set-up.

That'll be the Bosch then. Also look how easy it is to adjust the power level.

Torque or speed sensor - preferences?

Torque sensor bikes like the Bosch are brilliant, the most like a normal bicycle, and always millisecond responses to what you do. I'm with you on the throttle opinion Geebee.

Torque or speed sensor - preferences?

Is that the little disc with magnets fitted to a standard bottom bracket? in which case it is only a pedal speed sensor.

Torque or speed sensor - preferences?

Do a lot of these bikes that claim to have a torque sensor actually only have a simple pedal sensor? or is that what they call a speed sensor?

To me in the first video it looks like It only needed a fraction more assist speed to win, perhaps it just boils down to a 1 mph or so difference ?

I think it's important to point out the true facts myself. If Col says the Oxygen was assisting to above 16 mph I believe him. So not only did the Oxygen have a high wattage motor, it also had a higher assist speed. Not worth spoiling the day as Col didn't on the day, but worth pointing out...

Thanks Dave, I had thought it was something like that. At least there's a bit less to think about with that hub, a dab of the brake, change ratio, and then wait for the power to kick in, still not ideal, but a step in the right direction.
