    Li-ion cells

Thanks Flecc. I think I'm not quite brave enough to risk it that way! z0mb13e found a couple of promising looking sites, so I'll give them a try. Many thanks anyhow, Phil.

    Li-ion cells

Thanks I have thought about a DIY welder but I don't do enough to justify the cost. Getting decent hi-cap electrolytics (really need computer grade) is very difficult and expensive. Audio grade ones are very 'hit and miss.' I looked on the web and somehow missed those sites. Will give them a...

    Li-ion cells

I've posted this before before and had no replies and it is now getting rather urgent. Surely there must be someone in UK PLC who can spot weld tabs onto Li-ion cells? If so, I find it hard to believe that there isn't anybody on this forum who knows where  . Help please. Phil.

Welding solder tags on to Li-ion cells.

Hi Anybody out there know where I could get solder tags spot welded on to cylindical (26650) Li-ion cells? Had some cells just arrive from China and he accidentally sent them without the solder tags applied. I could send them back, but he has volunteered to pay if I can find someone over here...

Riding on sand - front hub motor?

Hi Having used both front and rear drive motor e-bikes in the past I would say that for the purposes you describe a front wheel motor would be more stable. You have true 'all wheel drive' (you via the rear wheel; motor on the front). You will find that, provided you use a sensitive touch, the...

    Cheap Lipo4 from China

Hi I have made DIY battery packs with 26650 tagged cells, copper strip for bus bar and bms's supplied programmed to order by BMS battery in China. The last one was a LiFePO4 24v 12Ah one for my wifes Saracen e-bike conversion. It has worked fine for the last 6m. The cells were glued together...

    Kids bikes

Hi You could try Islabikes.co.uk. They specialize in childrens bikes and have a very good reputation, but they aren't cheap..... Phil.

    "Helmets are required for E-Bikes"

Amen to that! If only we could all just lighten up a bit and stop being the wingeing 'NIMBY & NOTE' kings and queens of the world  Phil

    Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meercat

Hi I've been using various versions of Linux for several years, including Mandrake, Debian and Ubuntu. I love it. I used both ubuntu v9.0x and currently 10.04 - haven't upgraded to 10.10 yet. I have to say I've not had the problems you have had, but it is generally true that Linux requires more...

Supplier of 8fun bafang bpm hillclimber kit

Have used BMS battery to buy LiFePO4 cells, a bms and a charger to build a battery. I found them to be perfectly OK, although the delivery was a little slow (possibly because of shipping regs. re: Li battery cells). Goods were fine and communication via email was no problem, although perhaps a...

Radio 4 Join the Bike Helmet Debate

Hi, That's not a strictly accurate quote. What I actually said was 'Quote...' if exceeding speeds at which most people can easily run, or falling from a height greater than they would if they tripped up. Perhaps you might start with this site:- Safety and Security.. Cycling Helmets...

Radio 4 Join the Bike Helmet Debate

What is known is that the level of protection offered by bicycle helmets is minimal and not sufficient to offer significant protection from injury if exceeding speeds at which most people can easily run, or falling from a height greater than they would if they tripped up. Ergo if wearing a...

My brakes don't like getting wet

Try Kool Stops. Don't be put off by the 'mountain' label, they are fine on any bike. They are probably the best blocks you can get, although a little pricier than many they are, IMHO worth it. The 'salmon' ones are best in poor condidions. linK:- Kool Stop Mountain Pair Of Brake Blocks Only...

My brakes don't like getting wet

Hi - Im assuming you have rim brakes rather than discs (different solutions). If it's rim brakes then its probably your brake blocks, some of them do that embarrassingly loudly. Try changing to a block designed for the wet - most of them grip better in the dry also :). Phil

    Lycra Dichotomy ??

Sorry Tim, but you are right, there is no sensible alternative. All I can say is that once you get over the self-concious bit of actually wearing it for the first time, and feeling a complete t*t, you will soon find that it is far and away the most comfortable way to ride a bike. I wear it on...

    1950s backwheel dynamo?

I suppose I'm not surprised really, people collect all sorts of mechanical memorabilia. These would be relatively unusual, cheaper and simpler than most to buy and maintain and certainly much easier to store..:) . First time I've seen one in the normal 2nd hand pile in a LBS though. All the...

    The sting in the tail

My sympathies, pesky little blighter's are a major pain and largely go unmentioned until an incident like this is aired in public. Then you find out that almost everyone has at some stage had similar experiences. Flying things - mainly bugs, (but I have been clouted off my bike twice by...
