    Ever Weighed Your Ebike?

21 kilos, ok i guess. Although most the weight is on the rear. I.ve also removed the mud guards. Although rack could be lighter as its a real heavy beast. Could probably shave a kilo off it.

What Volt / Amp are you putting through it?

    $99 Battery

It is a very good price, two of them in series cheap way to get 48v battery. Keep us posted on how you get on with it.

    Bafang BPM Motor

Oh and if you I did just want speed I could have opted to over volt the motor. But since the battery is new its cheaper to have a spare Motor / wheel / controller than replace a battery or add a battery in series.

    Cyclists and mobile phones

Using a motorcycle though usually means even the low powered ones can gun it from the start line to get ahead. I can keep up with most moderate car drivers off from the lights (Untill they change to second) but then your stuffed :( Sometimes I don't even bother filtering if I know the lights...

    Riding safety on electric...tips?

I'm always running red lights, never really thought it was a problem. Always look though just incase the plod may be about... I don't mean I go through them when the other directional traffic is mid flow. Just start pedalling alot earlier when the lights are changing...

    Early morning rides

Throttle only - Don't really like the pedal assit. So much so I removed it. This is becasue if gives me the option when commuting to work and back to hold the throttle on the flat to give my legs a small rest before continuing. Also gives me slow speed through built up area's and high...

    Riding safety on electric...tips?

To be honest depending on the traffic I usually take a commading postion on the road if traffic is slow moving. This nigates the idea that a car motorist will over take you dangerously. I use most of the techniques picked up on my motorbike DAS and advanced course to help with riding on the...

    Bafang BPM Motor

Indeed but your also running the BPM at 48v - 500w with probably a top speed of 30mph.. I've opted for a 700c wheel with a load speed of around 22mph (26mph no load speed) so I would imagine I'll loose some effciency and torque while chewing up more amp's. Even if it meant I cut my range...

What are the major factors that persuaded you to get an electric bike?

Average speed in the car was 15mph to work and back and costing £30 a week to fill up. Which in the grand scheme of things isn't an issue. Moved to the city center and only get one car parking spot. So the partner has a newer car and much more reliable than my fiat punto which I am now...

    Bafang BPM Motor

Sounds reasonable. Thats why I emailed Alien bikes to ask about the controller and battery as really there isn't much difference in the spec other than the 18amp controller and BPM motor. Either way its a better motor with more potential so its worth the £150 notes for that. If it works as...

    Bafang BPM Motor

Indeed the controller does limit / provide the draw from the battery. However with the larger motor it would need more current at a higher nominal rate. Thus increasing torque across more of the range, looking at the insides of the motor's im the BPM (Bafang Permanent Magnet) there appears...

    Bafang BPM Motor

To be honest I've took the plunge and brought the BPM motor laced in a 700c wheel with a 9fet controller to suit. I've based the RPM on 36v cutting out at around 22mph, so no load speed should be around the 26mph limit. Not say it will acheive this additional speed limit with the same...

    Bafang BPM Motor

I sent a couple of emails of to Jim @ Alien bikes who has been very quick to respond and very helpful. Although not as in depth as say the above points I just wanted some plain laymans answer. The below is a conversation through email from myself and Jim. ------------------------ Hi...

    Bafang BPM Motor

As you have ordered one from bms battery have you found out what wind and wheel size they have put together for you at all? I'm sure with the higher speed the peak torque and peak current would move to say a band between 7 to 9 mph on the 250w motor to maybe 10 to 14mph with the 350w. Given...

    Bafang BPM Motor

Yeah i think i may buy a bpm motor to try it out with the existing controller and battery as they are brand new anyway. Off topic how,s your build coming along? Although i have to admit the free wheeling of the bafang motors in my eyes are very good. Hardly notice its there. But my bike...

    Bafang BPM Motor

Exactly, although the battery would still be within its max discharge rate. But if i'm honest if a battery lasts roughly 500 cycles i'd be more than happy. Never really that fussed about something lasting 2000 cycles because its a push bike. In a different application ie a car it would be...

    Bafang BPM Motor

Well for now forget the actual diameter of the wheel for differences in speed etc. The actual motor itself must draw a higher constant current that the other 250w motor's to enable it to be faster without loosing torque etc (Even if the wind is a lower rpm) Ie You input the same 36v, the...

    Bafang BPM Motor

Afternoon All, Quick question - The Bafang BPM Hill Climber motor (350w) does this naturally draw more current through its prm range compared to say the cheaper 250w motors using the same battery / controller combination. For Example, The Alien Aurora doesn't use a larger battery than any...
