What is this black and white wire for?

I've seen two wires like that. One is the speed restriction wire on some controllers to limit the assistance speed to the legal limit but the more common connection I think is to reverse motor direction which if you have a geared hub motor rather than direct drive hub motor won't actually...

    Kenda tyres

I don't think Kenda are low end as such. They are one of the two big bicycle tyre manufacturers with CST/Maxxis. These two big manufacturers make a huge number of other tyre brands. There is also Hung-A the big Korean manufacturer behind the Schwalbe brand. Anyway Kenda make tyres for every...

Oh no, 190 miles in and TSDZ2 strange noise

If it's a noise above the cut-off speed that is likely a high cadence gear so more flexing at the bottom bracket as you cycle faster. So maybe the frame is flexing more and the chainring is flexing more to the sides and the chainline is getting more distorted. For commercial mid-drive ebikes...

    Problem with throttle

Repair the controller or replace it but you haven't given any details of the ebike or the controller etc. It could be a known issue for that controller or ebike if pre-built. If you know a component is faulty its good to replace as soon as possible as faults could be stressing other components.

What e bike for my gf?

Typical folding small wheel ebikes accommodate all size riders pretty much you just adjust them to the size of the rider. For people in flats who have multiple people wanting to ride but only storage for one small bike a folding bike is often the best option. Each rider just adjusts it to their...

    hidden throttle gas needed?

That's an interesting twist on the 250W rating so mid-drive motors which many claim to be more efficient would have much lower ratings than hub motors because their efficiency wastes less power so in effect should have much lower battery requirements than hub motors to be rated at 250W...

    Presta or Schrader...which is best??...

Lots of presta valves are removable nowadays I guess because of the use of sealant. It might even be the majority. I think all valves leak a bit of air over time, there is no perfect seal hence people are having to pump up their tyres fairly regularly. The small size of presta is probably an...

    Another Ebike conversion kit death

I personally don't think lead acid gel type batteries are that dangerous. Lots of vehicles have them, motorbikes and mopeds for their electrical circuits and I can't remember hearing of any issues but admittedly haven't really looked. Bosch make their batteries very disposable. Any anolomanies...

    TSD2 range ?!

That's a huge battery capacity of over 700Wh so very decent there and the Tongsheng isn't the most powerful mid-drive motor either and its power is controlled by the torque sensor so it only really pushes high amounts of power when you are going up steeper hills plus you have been using ECO so I...

    Another Ebike conversion kit death

I think its a fair comment based on indicating that even high cost premium ebikes still fail despite making up a tiny percentage of ebike sales, here you see a model with a high level of failure. Clearly that ebike in the news report has a direct drive hub motor and what appears to be a very...

    Battery for Tongsheng 36v motor

You haven't actually mentioned anything about the battery pack. A 20A fuse won't typically blow at 20A they normally have a tolerance above. The whole point is how much stress you are putting each individual cell under when the discharge rate is close to their maximum repeatedly. You design in...

    hidden throttle gas needed?

That's the point just about every motor is illegal except for the very small geared hub motors you get on very entry level ebikes. Pretty much every motor is illegal on the market as they all take more than 250W. On a hub motor ebike its the controller that is the issue and the controller on...

    Presta or Schrader...which is best??...

Schrader is definitely better for high pressure applications but really its in the lower pressure applications where the air pressure isn't as high so the valve isn't as secure and leaks more air than presta that is the issue. Presta is definitely better for holding pressure than Schrader in the...

    hidden throttle gas needed?

I had a look at that review and I think its very fair and well written and shows the reality of direct drive hub motors properly configured. It may well be the windings are optimised for torque here but generally direct drive is still competitive with many mid-drive ebikes that are designed for...

    hidden throttle gas needed?

That sounds completely realistic for 1500W even when you give them huge amounts of power its the speed that increases more than torque. The 25-35Nm figure is for legal 250W direct drive hub motors. It's also wheel size dependent so maybe 25Nm is 700c and 35Nm is 20". I have a 500W geared hub...

    Presta or Schrader...which is best??...

I think presta is more suitable for higher pressure so is pretty much a requirement for road bike type wheels but even for mountain bikes many go presta nowadays to save pumping up so much. When you see tubeless conversion kits it always seems to be presta although I guess schrader may be...

    hidden throttle gas needed?

Often the same hub direct drive hub motors can go from 200W to 2000W its the controller that ultimately controls how much power goes to the motor which itself may be limited by the battery. The legislation is extremely poorly written and seems to focus on mid-drive motors which have the...

    Battery for Tongsheng 36v motor

Torque sensor based mid-drive motors typically have the widest current range they use. When climbing a hill with the motor providing maximum torque which could be in the range of 80-100Nm they use a huge amount of current somewhere between 600-800W for so called legal motors and often above that...

    Legal Pitfalls

The ebike law is extremely poorly written. All ebike motor systems are capable of taking more power, the ebike law should have been completely focused on the controller which dictates how much power the motor gets but because its mid-drive focused where the controller is integrated into the main...

    Legal Pitfalls

In India and Africa often ebikes are the only motorised transport they can afford and there is a high level of kits from what I understand. A huge number of videos from India are how to fit ebike kits mainly simple brushed motors which are the cheapest option. However there is not much...
