    Converting Carrera Subway 2

You can get 9 speed freewheels like this one; https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08P55BTJF I never think they are a as good as Shimano 7 speed freewheels which seem stronger and more accurately threaded however with a ebike the drivetrain does get an easier life. So while a 9 speed freewheel might...

Suggestion that delivery companies should check their riders bikes are legal !!!!!!

I'm not the only one with this viewpoint from what I've seen written most Chinese manufacturers found the European certification utterly ridiculous and couldn't understand it and many ebike engineers all around the world don't accept the EU certification is certifying true 250W ebikes. It seems...

Suggestion that delivery companies should check their riders bikes are legal !!!!!!

I don't obsess about it at all I simply don't accept a 900W ebike is 250W its as simple as that. You don't buy a 1500W washing machine and expect it to be 5000W and its clear the legislation still views these as 250W ebikes. This corrupt and incompetent legislation has created genuine confusion...

Suggestion that delivery companies should check their riders bikes are legal !!!!!!

I have no problem with that but then why are we persisting in classing some ebikes as illegal which operate over 250W but require active cooling to do so. We are now seeing many hub motor ebikes with what are obviously 500W, 750W, 1000W motors certified under European certification as 250W and...

carerra subway e going on its own

I don't know how old the model is but you could try bluffing it in Halfords that you bought it new and haven't got your receipt to hand to see what advice they can give. I remember having a conversation with Halfords regarding these Suntour HESC ebikes and they often have to swop parts with...

Suggestion that delivery companies should check their riders bikes are legal !!!!!!

So a fully charged 36V battery is 42V and you have stated 20A controller (continuous?) that is 840W peak current. 3.5x the so called legal wattage. To produce 80Nm that is probably at 20A similar to the Tongsheng. Again this is just calling 15.5mph a 250W motor its is utterly meaningless and...

Suggestion that delivery companies should check their riders bikes are legal !!!!!!

What motor is it? Also the problem with ebike law is why we keep talking about it. It's a complete mess and unworkable. Everyone is interpreting it as they want to intepret it with their own bias. Throttles are perfectly legal on many ebikes without issue but so many keep stating the same...

Suggestion that delivery companies should check their riders bikes are legal !!!!!!

I've still not used that motor its still in the box. Another delayed project but looking forward to getting it on an ebike in the future. Rated and marked by the manufacturer (or the sticker someone has put on it afterwards) is one thing but of course the real wattage is what the motor is...

Suggestion that delivery companies should check their riders bikes are legal !!!!!!

It's probably illegal anyway if its a high power mid-drive motor well above 250W and delivering perhaps 15A or more of power when climbing hills however again the Department for Transport have stated that if a ebike kit meets the correct spec it doesn't have to go through the type approval...

Suggestion that delivery companies should check their riders bikes are legal !!!!!!

Ebikes are still only a minority of bicycles on the road, the vast majority are standard bicycles and those cyclists acting irresponsibly are much more likely to be on a standard bicycle. Only yesterday I spotted a cyclist without lights riding on the pavement and another ignoring traffic lights...

Suggestion that delivery companies should check their riders bikes are legal !!!!!!

In that article the victim has stated the ebike was travelling at 15mph going up the wrong way. I've read these ebike forum threads a lot and not once have I read that illegal ebikes actually go in the wrong direction on cycle paths where as legal ones do not. This is new information I didn't...

    Illegal ebike crackdown Coventry

The police really struggle with ebike legislation which seems to the main cause for a huge amount of threads on this forum. You would probably need to send an email to the Department for Transport with full spec details of your bike to get an analysis and from my experience they ignore most...

Seeking Advice on Affordable Ebike for 20-Mile Daily Commute (£500-£600 = Budget)

The efficiency bit is a nonsense. Mid-drive motors lose some power through the chain and are based on a smaller higher rpm motor which uses a series of gears to bring down to a lower rpm for torque and you also lose power through the gears. Also because of everything being combined in a small...

Prices have gone crazy for bare hubs + shipping + VAT - anyone know a good source?

It's pretty obvious you can't rely on Chinese firms or many other firms to be honest. So the way tax is collected needs to be a lot more robust. If that means additional staff then add that to the customs charges. We are seeing a huge loss of high street shops and the government needs to be a...

Buying an eBike today. Please adviseeee!

Wisper sell a twist and go ebike which is completely legal as individually tested. Still legal to have a twist and go throttle with a ebike kit and of course before 2016 ebikes were sold with twist and go throttles in the UK legally and still legal to use today. So lots of ways to have a twist...

Steel or aluminium frame to fit hub motor

I personally feel high tensile steel frames and forks are the right choice for many ebike conversions. The issue with chromoly steel is its often butted and heat treated and rusts just as fast as high tensile steel so the thin butted sections can be compromised by corrosion. Chromoly frames were...

    Suspension seat post

That's definitely an issue with suspension seat posts if you have a frame almost too big for you and then the suspension seat post takes it beyond that with its extra length. You can adjust the spring tension so its sags more but this may not be the ideal spring tension for normal riding.

    Suspension seat post

I think suspension seat posts are brilliant, cheap, easy to maintain and adjust. They can take a while to adjust to just how you want them to be and if you gain or lose weight or you will need to adjust again. Combine one with a sprung saddle and it will turn even the harshest aluminium framed...

lessons learnt and now even more advice required

That looks like a terrible hill climbing ebike. The motor is only 40Nm and the ratio of 34 at the back and 38 at the front means 40x(34/38) plus a bit of loss through the chain means you are at about 34Nm and then you have large 700c wheels with 700x42 tyres so very large diameter wheels so...

Help! Looking for an alternative to Swytch and would appreciate some advice in Conversion Kits General Discussion.

I can't help noticing the 15A and 22A you have mentioned there in reference to the controllers. A true 250W rated controller is around 7A for the continuous rating of the controller. I also watched this video today and I've never seen this before but because he was climbing a very steep ascent...
