    EBike Built like mopeds?

Yes - completely agree There is no stipulation that a significant amount of the power is going to come from the rider's efforts - just that the pedals are turning I think all that matters is that the manufacturer has rated it as 250 watts, in other jurisdictions the motor may be rated 750...

    EBike Built like mopeds?

I found the subject quite thought provoking, how manufacturers "use" the law quite differently to how it was originally envisaged. I thought it was done quite informatively, not too sensationalist - usually youtube videos make me cringe a bit - hope it gets a reasonable number of views The...

Hub Motor Mounting in forks / frame

So for "our" sorts of ebikes (ie with peak input power less than 1000w) is there are rule of thumb as to the material that a hub motor is fitted to Front Forks Steel Yes Front Forks Alloy No ? Front Forks Carbon No Rear Dropouts Steel Yes Rear Dropouts Alloy Yes Rear...

    EBike Built like mopeds?

I guess for some people they would be a good fit, (probably not many here !). If you were urban commuting a short distance and the limited speed in towns/cities probably doesn't make much difference. The manufacturer is inviting a crackdown though, if it is easy to derestrict. The only...

The New Brompton G Line Electric

It has more comedic effect when a 6'4" burly man in his 60s zooms around the village on a pink folding bike that is not obviously electric and races the local youths on their very expensive mountain bikes up the hill.

The New Brompton G Line Electric

True, my wife's folds in the middle, the handlebar folds down and the seat post drops Mind you that Brompton with 20" wheels isn't in the same league as the smaller wheeled ones

The New Brompton G Line Electric

DIY Get a standard 20" folder (Dahon clone or Raleigh intercity disc 8 12-13kg - they fit wider tyres) with disc brakes, add a AKM74 hub motor wheel (+1.6kg) with 15a KT controller and a 10Ah 36V Bag Battery (1.8kg from Woosh) and there you have it. I did that with my wife's Dahon clone...

I am a newbie when it comes to electric mountain bikes

I think the Wisper tailwind trail might be a better option with the 540wh battery for your requirements. 1) Battery size 400wh battery is quite modest, if you start going on longer rides (which lots of us started doing once we got e-bikes) you might have to limit your motor assist to get the...

I am a newbie when it comes to electric mountain bikes

I think one thing to check on the.more.expensive e-bikes that are designed for hard core mountain biking is the gearing, some of them are very low geared, so you will be pedalling very fast if you are mostly on roads / light trails / pavements

I am a newbie when it comes to electric mountain bikes

I think just about any e-bikes would be suitable. If you fancy a challenge, buy a well maintained second hand donor bike and buy a kit Woosh and Whisper are well regarded here and have a number of suitable bikes and very good customer support https://wooshbikes.co.uk/?camino...

    For Sale Bargains

Yes, the people that I know (in their 50s/60s/70s ) that use theirs tend to use them on a mix of roads, light trails and bridleways and tend to have to eke their batteries out if they go for a days riding. I'm not sure what they make of my "clankers" but I'm not sure they have selected the...

So moving from the standard freewheel smallest cog (14t) to a DNP 11t cog is a 27% increase in gearing - potentially you are going to need a massive chainwheel on a folder (which usually have big chainwheels to start with) to get that sort of increase.

    For Sale Bargains

That looks like an amazing saving and the bike looks great too. I wonder how the price and performance of the bike compares with buying a second hand full suspension bike and adding a Bafang / Tongsheng kit. I guess there is probably some difficulty level of route and obstacles where a...

    250w vs 500w

I think that it is worth being careful (phoning up the shop?) but maybe the shop is trying to cut it's overheads down to the absolute minimum on this offer. Does putting "Trade Sale" in the description affect consumer rights ? - I wouldn't have thought so.
