Is this a technical breach of the law? Uncertain

It's a pedestrian crossing. Think the clue might be in the title. In that circumstance I would walk my bike over then cycle off beyond the crossing. To do otherwise would cause avoidable agravation, and there's enough of that in the world, why be the source of more for the sake of a couple of...

Swytch kit: compatibility with non-Swytch components?

If you have room XT60's would be far better due to greater current capacity resulting in less heat damage/distortion. Don'y worry about the motor being '250w'. This is merely a continuous rating, in other words the power consumption the motor can take without overheating. Any motor will take...

The flatpack EV: how Luvly is aiming to revolutionise the micro-EV market

Somehow I can't see the gagging for SUV's British public going for that. Can you imagine being in traffic with 4x4's front and back and a truck alongside? However, it makes absolute sense for most city driving, so long as you don't have two kids to drop off at school. (I used to walk (or cycle)...

    New seasons adventures underway

Thanks for the lovely photo's from a part of the world I'm not likely to get too (my wife gets eaten alive by midges). The views are very compelling, however I still think you're an absolute nutter - camping at this time of year - up north ! I think it would be very instructive if you were...

    Legal Pitfalls

This site is obviously giving false information to potential buyers. 1: The bikes are only legal for off road use where there is no public access. In other words ones own private estate or where the land owner has given permission. They don't state this. 2:They state that you don't need a...

Swiss mobility association recommends ABS for all e-bikes

Oh great! More technical complexity and greater fault liability, just what the garden shed maintained bike needs. It'll be MOT's next.

    Where to buy 48v battery

Press the link Sounwave gave you. It is for e-bike batteries. They are a well known company on this site based in London, I've used them myself. He can either supply you a brand new battery, build one to your spec or, recell your existing case. He will arrange courier pickup of your old case...

    Torque arms recommendation

I have used those in the past (pre angle adjustment), they are good and sturdy. I used mudguard mount to fix too, tricky but managed to get them in. The addition of the star angle adjuster should make them fit just about anywhere.

    Problem with a Cytronex conversation

Check the main power connections to the motor. I know it sounds mechanical but if one phase is resistive it can cause all sorts of horrible noises. Look for signs of heat damage at the connectors, swollen or burnt insulation. Had this on my Ezee conversion, stripped the motor twice 'cos I was...

Got my first ebike (Specialized Levo 2023) 3 weeks ago

Hi David, The main thing you have to learn is how to moderate the e-bike grin. Others get jealous and suspect that your actually 'on something', which of course you are ! :D

    parts an prices from china

As a kid I knew that, if I wanted something, I had to work for it. Stealing was/is not an option. This immeadiately enters the area of personal honour, where is that spoken about today? As a teenager I had various part time jobs (paper round, shelf stacker etc.) and have worked since I left...

Petition to legalizing throttle only eBikes for the disabled

Yup, let them have the speed limited big powerful motors with all their big number bragging rites, and I'll run a very profitable national flat battery recovery service.

Petition to legalizing throttle only eBikes for the disabled

And this is why this 'continuous power rating' is utter nonsense and meaningless. A 250w continuous rating means that the motor will run at that rating continuously (normally taken to be 30 minutes +)without overheating. So all that could be done is to input a precise 6.94A (250w at 36v) and see...

    Help! Motor has died (maybe!)

What does your battery measure after charging? Should be around 41.7v. It is unlikely that the motor has failed, they are pretty bullet proof. We need more description of what is and isn't happening.

Prices of the electricity we use to charge

Well yes, if we ignore the massive amounts of carbon up front in all the concrete used. Then theres the complexity of control systems needed to make them safe with all the fail safe backups because any failure is so potentially catastrophic. After all this there's the end of life...

Prices of the electricity we use to charge

Also no because, as I understand it, the system for pricing electricity in this country is based on the price of the most expensive fuel. As gas is part of our generation fuel, and will continue to be so for years, it's likely to be this price that sets our electricity price, even if the...

Help! Show me your storage sheds/bike shelters

If the cladding on your proposed tunnel is metal it will sweat and therefore drip. I realise it will be well ventilated but my experience with a well ventilated metal woodshed tells me that it will still sweat and drip. Never managed to work out the physics behind this as temperature inside and...

E-bike stops power shortly - hints for repair requested

We're going to need some photo's. The motor and any markings on it. The pedal sensor/bottom bracket area. The disp[ay. If you can locate it, the controller and plugs. First, check the motor plug (should be within 100mm or so of the motor)see that it is fully pushed home. There will be a line...

What have the Romans ever given us?

I don't understand all the chemistry here, but it doesn't really surprise me based on 20 years of dealing with and learning about welsh stone buildings. These were built with a stone wall either side (inside and outside) with a rubble infill, making them around 3 ft thick. Lime mortar was used...

    Bike braking on freewheel

I can confirm all the above. When new, some hub motors can be a bit tight but this will loosen up with miles on the clock. If you lift the back wheel of the ground( get someone to help you or put it on a maintenance stand), then apply power, by spinning the pedals, when you stop spinning the...
