Prices of the electricity we use to charge

In the complicated self delusional world of carbon accounting, it all depends on where the boundary is drawn. That's roughly how wood burning power stations get away with it. If woodland / tree planting / other biofuels are dedicated to a particular purpose, then the emissions of one can be...

That's better than unspecified, then. Might even be good! The non-ebike users I have seen get 'converted' have to be blown away by their first 30 seconds of riding, or they are lost for ever. The Tern does that, not sure this will.

Only the basic unaccessorized, single battery, slow charger version at that price. Add the second battery and one of the optional 'useful as a cargo bike' options, and the fast charger, and it is close to £2K. Disadvantages of unspecified brakes (Tern has 4 piston, thick pad Maguras, ideal for...

New build, wheel loses drive and screeches

So going right back to the beginning, you have two trikes, and two q128 motors, one old and the other brand new. No matter what you do, the noise problem is there on one trike with either motor. Can you make the noise happen on the other trike?

For Sale Reise & Muller Supercharger 2

Got to be worth a try. Also if there is detail that can help, for example year, battery size, which model and generation of motor, which display. Not my cup of tea, but a highly respected brand, there'll be a buyer somewhere, perhaps when the days get longer.

DFT consultation on increase of 250W limit to 500W

I think it is the electric horse that is above average. The rating is standard.

    I prefer 33,000 foot-pounds per minute.

For Sale Reise & Muller Supercharger 2

The biggest barrier to buying secondhand is the lack of warranty, because of high repair costs if motor or battery have issues. If you price in somewhere between half and all of a major repair, that might be more attractive. A new one on R&M website today, with 1000Wh dual battery, is £4929.

    Cycling. Health. Covid. Diet.

...and those sugar amounts are scary! I get three weeks of breakfasts out of 500g of tasty relatively unrefined sugar, so about 24g per day, so I am no saint. But multiple soft drinks in a day adds up alarmingly!

    Cycling. Health. Covid. Diet.

I suspect that hunger and good palatability are also at play. In the canoeist's case, I suspect that some of those bizarre foodstuffs are probably inedible unless starving, so weight loss until hunger kicks in would not surprise me. In my pre-Christmas low exercise period each year, I put on 3...

    New power/speed allowable performance envelope

Controllers don't have to be dumb.

    New power/speed allowable performance envelope

Scenario 1 above. It doesn't need to know. Treat the controller and motor as a unit, and allow the controller to understand the performance curves of the motor. Then measuring input V and I (and of course rpm, sorry I left that out before) allows output power to be calculated with sufficient...

    New power/speed allowable performance envelope

For a hub motor I'd measure it by telling the controller all about the motor, and letting it make a calculation from easily measured input V and I. For a torque sensored mid-drive, it already knows from torque and rpm of the crank, so just needs a reasonable allowance for drivetrain efficiency...

DFT consultation on increase of 250W limit to 500W

I would be quite happy staying on the roads with s-pedelec spec. Of course, impossible to police, so no progress expected.

Read a load of conversion threads. All you need to know has been seen many times before. Then come back for specifics if needed. Pictures always help a description.

    New power/speed allowable performance envelope

It'll never happen, but the following would highly suit my style of low energy, long distance touring. 1. Actual delivered power not a thing of particular concern, provided speed is not above 25km/h. 2. Absolute cap of 250W on delivered power above 25km/h but otherwise no assistance speed...

DFT consultation on increase of 250W limit to 500W

I know all that. I'd just like the continental simplicity of s-pedelec to cross the Dover strait!

DFT consultation on increase of 250W limit to 500W

If 25km/h is respected, then there is no need for higher 'continuous' power. Just about all non-Argos £245 bikes already deliver significantly more than 250W on demand during acceleration and hill climbing. A separate category with a higher assistance speed would change things.
