    A little more speed?

Apparently those first ones have an Ear Indicator - interesting.

The range. Ah (amp hours) is an expression of battery capacity. So a 10Ah battery can deliver 10 amps for 1 hour, or 1A for 10 hours. The more useful expression is Watt/hours. To get this you multiply the Ah rating by the nominal voltage. So 10Ah*36V=360Wh. If you work on a ball park...

    Dutch cycle testing

Do we have any kind of traffic education in this country? Certainly no 'frivolous' bike training. It seems that we would rather habituate our kids to being taken door to door in a nice safe steel box, then ring our hands about their weight and the amount of pollution they have to live with. In...

What to do, what to do.

Front hubs can be 'interesting' in certain conditions. Many lanes around here have moss and green slime on them. This makes hill climbing technical, there can be some wheel spin on steeper bits. The same is true for loose surfaces. I find that putting my weight forward over the bars mostly...

    Gearing enquiry

I think this one has been rubbing, at some point, because the end of the plastic sensor is chamfered. Forecast looks good for the weekend, so hopefully will be able to get some hill climbing in.

    Gearing enquiry

Finally got out for a shake down ride. SWMBO reports that downhill cadence/speed much better. However we were unable to assess the climb gearing because the pas developed a fault, it was pulsing on and off. So we came home on throttle. Got the bike on the stand and stripped off the...

They are a parallel arm mechanism that moves in an arc backwards/down as weight comes on and forwards/upwards to return. So, because of the arc, I think the relative distance from bum to peddle is pretyy much mantained. Your bum might be slightly loer but also slightly further back. The...

    The perfect kit

Aww streuth! No wonder it's difficult for folk to get a grip on this legality thing. A bloke can go out and buy a Bugatti Vaeron and have no restriction on where he drives it, even though he'd break the speed limit every time he booted it in 1st gear. Yet pedelecers have to put up with all this...

Best place for battery for e bike conversion

No the motor itself has internal gearing, normally around a 5:1 ratio. This means that there is a clutch which disengages when the power is off, giving little or no resistance when coasting. Unlike the direct drives which are always engaged and act like a generator/drag when cycling without...

Best place for battery for e bike conversion

For a featherweight like yourself, almost any 250w geared hub will suit fine. If you go for a 36v motor but run it from a 48v battery you will get the speed you want. Again - best get the bike first because some dropouts can differ. Also frame geometry can be an issue sometimes.

Best place for battery for e bike conversion

Hi Ray, Best get a bike first, then you can get specific help. Do you realise that the kit you've linked to is a direct drive motor? These are fine for flat roads at higher speeds. At lower speeds they are inefficient and throw a fair percentage of your battery power away as heat. This low...

    Recommend a E-conversion KIt 700c

As I said you can get batteries for $150 but the cells will probably be a no name generic copy of dubious quality. The stated capacity (Ah) will be derived from testing at a very low current draw. When used in a bike drawing much higher current the capacity will be much lower, giving a lower...

So fitted the new 46t crankset. Went like dream - once I'd put the pas ring the right way round. Also fitted one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sks-Chainboard-Chain-Universal-Design/dp/B0019HIZBO/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1518363995&sr=8-4&keywords=sks+chainboard Just at the start of the...

Use it or lose it.. an interesting read.

Like AK, I had a Hoover washer that lasted over 25 years with me replacing brushes twice. Don't expect the new one to last that long. When do you think led lighting manufacturers will start shortening the life of lamps? My house is lit by led's with a spec of 15-20,000 hours. "They'll see us...

    Backache

Get someone to ride behind you. If your hips are rotating around the saddle, then it is too high. If you're getting a burn just above the knee it is too low. If you're comfortable with the amount (or lack ) of weight on your wrists, then I'd say the reach is right. Frame size is measured from...

For torque arms I'd use these, they don't use a jubilee clip. I use just one on my front hub - bombproof...

Hi and welcome. Nice looking bike. It is a bit on the heavy side to begin with and a kit, obviously, will add to that. You're not particularly heavy but you say you want to use it for deliveries, so overall weight would be approx 255pounds plus your delivery. I would say you need a motor with...

As a self employed electrician/carpenter, this,' what is my time worth balanced against what will the market stand', never goes away. As a sole trader I don't charge vat, have no back office staff to support, no premises costs (vehicle based) no employees NI etc.etc. All this is reflected in...
