    Big Bear maintenance

Thanks chaps. Just found this: https://www.spacycles.co.uk/m2b0s109p2188/STRONGLIGHT-ST55-Single-Chainset The rear set has a surprising 15t top cog, so that might be an idea if the chain ring doesn't fully satisfy.

    Big Bear maintenance

Time for some new season maintenance on the wife's bike. As the chain guard is cracked, and she's always said it's slightly under geared, I thought it was time for a new crank set. Existing ring is 44 teeth and seems permanantly fitted to the crank. Can't seem to find a 46t single ring crank...

    Newbie with a question

Hi Dan, Could you put a bigger chain ring on the front? Assist will still drop out at the same speed, but it sounds like you're a strong cyclist and at least this would keep you soinning above 25mph.

    Electrical Ground

Think it could be to do with the voltage being used. With a frame return, if no power was being drawn, then the frame would be sitting at battery voltage. This could be over 50V for a 48V battery. As someone who used to work in telephone exchanges, which in those days ran on 50v D.C., I can...

    Brake advice, please help

I have those, they're good. Use resin pads and you'll wonder why you didn't do it years ago. Put the caliper in place with mounting bolts just finger tight. Squeeze the lever and hold whilst tightening the bolts. Hey presto centred caliper. If you need to shorten a hose, keep it upright as...

    Battery Charger Fun - Sans 42volt 2amp

Don't know about that charger in particular, but all 2A fanless chargers get hot. I have two, one supplied with a Big Bear the other supplied with a Panda kit, both get hot to the touch. Conversly the 4A fan cooled charger supplied with my Ezee kit doesn't get even warm.

Help needed with hardtail MTB conversion for wife

That's a geared hub so the clutch will disengage when the power goes off - freewheel no problem. Many will say that only a single front ring is needed on an electric bike. Me, I kept two 'cos of where I live. I'd say, as your wife will be towing, keep two. Shouldn't really need the granny...

    Dillinger kit

Nice looking job ! I'd definenitley go for the torque arm as well as c washers, bit extra security. Here's how mine worked out: It's a (D8veh inspired) hand made bracket fitted to the caliper mounts. Better that a jubilee clip round the fork leg. No problems in about 4000 miles.

    Faulty eCarrera Crossfire

Didn't Newtsoup say his cut out going downhill? Certainly his video shows it going dead when at a standstill, so how could it be over current? Maybe Suntour are using this forum to do their fault finding :confused: My advice FWIW: Build your own mate. At least you'll know what's where...

A little lost and just a bit confused from Devon

Again to help you decide - it's useful to know that a cyclist will consume between 10 and 20 watt hours (Wh) per mile. So a 500 Wh battery(14Ah) will give you between 25 and 50 miles. This will depend on your level of fitness, terrain, weight, wind etc. etc.

    Parallel Batteries

It's exactly the high possible current that bothered me. There's a max. of 8" of 10guage wire between the two batteries, so very low resistance. I'll be aiming for no more than 0.3v difference. Haven't had chance to try it again yet - weather/work.

whats the best method of carrying a spare dolphin battery please?

I use the pannier you can see in the avatar. However I do put a bungee round the pannier to stop the weight slopping around. I can feel the off centre weight but it's not a problem on road.

    Faulty eCarrera Crossfire

Hi Ruth, As said many people are reporting similar problems. As well as the motor cable, I think a couple of guys secured the battery with bungees with some success. The bike really is not for for purpose, maybe you could use this thread, and others on the site (there are a few), as part of...
