I'm really not quite sure what you mean by that... I'm presuming you mean I'm naïve? You really do need to study the fascinating Greenway model to understand that there are businesses far bigger than yours that can (IMHO) undercut and flatten yours... provided it proves lucrative enough! It's...

My criticism is not aimed specifically at Amps... other than David at Amps is clearly revelling here in his ability to supply e-bikes to a County (town) where Whoosh reside. My criticism is I feel perfectly valid... Essex Council have bought e-bikes outside their local County boundaries when...

What you're saying, David, is that Bike Base understand your bikes as well as you do. In that case, why are they even dealing with you rather than importing their own direct from China? Are they stupid too?

Well yes, you would say that: You're making the money. And if/when problems arise, would it be better to ship the bikes back to Kent, or walk the bikes back down the road to the actual local Southend importer who specified, imported, and understands them and can quickly fix them? My issue...

    New Cyclamatic

Yeah, but a Southend boy who moved to Kent. Your dealer only makes a little of the total margin. The bigger contribution to the local economy would be made by supporting genuine local enterprise rather than some reseller making just a few quid. Frankly, Essex Council needs a good kicking, and...

That does beg the question as to why the local Council are not supporting their own local industry, local employment and buying local? Clearly, someone in the Essex Council needs a very good slap... a local Southend business-rate tax payer and employer that supplies credible e-bikes, and yet...

I find the solid aluminium spacer blocks to be fine. There is by necessity some lateral/twist movement. If you turn the bike upside down, loosen the caliper hex bolts, and then spin the wheel, it's easy to find the sweet spot where the brakes don't bind. A quick squeeze on the brake lever can...

The riddle of complete bikes cheaper than kits?

Yes, the buyer is protected. But in the case I cited in post #2, the bogus seller was completely new every time... night after night, for months... the money withdrawn and the account closed. Yes, Paypal guarantee the sale and reimburse the buyer - a faff though it may be to reclaim their money...

The riddle of complete bikes cheaper than kits?

Paypal can only claw back the money if further sales go through, or the money remains in the sellers account. If the money has already been withdrawn... The buyer has to allow, say, a few days for delivery. When the item then doesn't arrive, they get suspicious and report it... but by then it's...

My front brake calliper was abrading: Because of the larger 180 disc, they've used spacer blocks which could twist a bit/be a bit loose... just a quick adjustment with a hex key.

Yes, I take your point. And at the end of the day, it's mostly down to the professional integrity of the supplier as to how fairly you get treated. I'm comforted by the fact that ELBC (for what might unkindly be described as a "box-shifting e-commerce company") do have onsite a build/repair area...

Yes, legally, your contract is with ELBC; their contract is (presumably) with GW; GW's contract is with Bafang. If you have a problem, your redress is with ELBC - it's for them to sort the issue out through their supplier(s). But ELBC do state a "manufacturer warranty".

When I was there and bought my bike in mid January, their newly revamped website had only been up a couple of weeks... it wasn't working properly, they knew it wasn't working properly, but they were working on it! Perhaps they've got the payment bit working now? The date is the motor build date...

The website doesn't work, as discussed in posts #51 and #52 on page 3 of this thread. You either need to use ebay, amazon or call or visit in person.

It's £1000 if you buy/collect from their warehouse in East London. The extra £50 on ebay is to cover their listing and paypal fees.

The riddle of complete bikes cheaper than kits?

Ya see... here's another fraud. Over on the Bafang Max Drive Bikes thread, we're discussing the Greenway Cross bike - a mid-drive bike made exclusively for Greenway Cycles and only sold through their own company East London Bike Co. We all seem to agree that the specification is too good for...

Me neither. If as zack@byocycles estimates they're making a paltry £76 on each sale, you'd just switch the lights off and go home, wouldn't you? Maybe they're cross-subsidising or (more likely) writing it off as a bad experiment and simply trying to clear stock at cost. A bike of this class just...

The Greenway Cross has Shimano hydraulics. The Greenway code ultrafunkula refers to is E15C202, the 2015 model, but in fact the model Greenway actually supply has more in common with the later E16B402, from 2016. It has the Shimano hydraulics and the 38T chainwheel, although ours have the 2015...

If you do a CH check on Greenways address, you'll see that bikes aren't the only commodity they're importing/reselling from their impressively large and stylish warehouse/building! PS: Greenway's spare Samsung batteries have delisted/disappeared from view... has he sold them all?

I don't think it matters what you sell. If the quality is there and the price is right, it'll sell if you find your market. The better the price/value ratio, the more you'll sell. Transport is a significant cost factor to weigh in that balance. Being stuck at the far end of the A13 on the Essex...
