    Electric taxi project

Brother and I bought this, er, 'beauty' on eBay. I think it's an early 'velotaxi'. It's interesting, because it's constructed to meet some (possibly all) of the SVA requirements to make it road legal with a 800w motor. It has lights/indicators, motorcycle tyres, horn etc. I guess that for...

    Self build: £324

Over the last few years the accepted wisdom has been that self builds don't make financial sense so are only worth doing if you want something unusual, are an enthusiast, or already have a decent bike you want to convert. I have just built two bikes for my neighbours. Reasonable quality second...

S-KU65 controller and Hidden Wire Brake Sensors (HWBS)

I just came to install a couple of these, all delivered from BMSBattery yesterday. The sensors and the controller are wired slightly differently, and won't simply plug n play. If you just plug them in the light on the HWBS will be always on. The solution is to swap the position of the Yellow...

    BMS bottle-09 battery.

I've just ordered one of these: https://bmsbattery.com/ebike-battery/730-36v10ah-bottle-09-e-bike-battery-charger-battery.html Anyone used one before and know what connector it comes with? Is it a cable coming out, or a socket on the battery itself? Any help appreciated.

    3 pin connectors

Hi all, I'm looking to add a connector on to the phase wires, close to the hub to make wheel removal easier. It needs to be water resistant (ish) and capable of 15-20 amps. What have others used?

    Seat post racks for battery

A few months back I posted a pic of one of my bikes with a seat post mounted battery. There were a few comments about alloy racks cracking and breaking, and suggestions that I should use a steel one. Mine hasn't cracked (not used much) but I'm looking for steel replacement. Anyone bought one...

    Looking for a new battery

Looks like the second hand battery I bought for the wife's bike has given up. (It was cheap, and I got 2 years out of it, so I'm happy with that). As a result I'm in the market for a 10ah, 36v battery. Shrink wrap from BMS is about £150 delivered +VAT/DUTY. Can anyone suggest any better (or...

BMS battery do a 10ah 36v lithium battery. It's in shrink wrap, and can be got for £150 delivered. I installed one in friends bike, and it really neat and compact - 150x150x70 mm. I'm thinking about slinging one under the saddle, in a saddlebags for another project. Anyone done this before?

    Performance figures database

On another forum I took part in (about boats) they had a performance database, to give people an idea about engine/hull combinations. While not fool proof, it was useful. It was edited by one of the members, who was able to sift out the obvious BS claims. Would something similar be of use...

Dutch bikes, hubs and crank drives.

I have been asked to convert a funny Dutch bike to electric (Batavus I think). I say funny, as I'm more used to Mountain bike components. The bike will be used as a demo in a local bike shop, and possibly also rented out on occasion. The bike is steel, as are the front forks, but they look...

    Help with Ezee kit problem

A friend brought round his cargo bike for me to look at. It has an ezee front drive kit fitted, I would guess the kit is around 5 years old. The controller has an LED on it. It comes on, and stays on. When you twist the throttle, the motor gives a kick, stops, then controller flashes five times...

E bikes on the one show.....

... I missed the first bit, but I didn't hear anyone ask if it charges while you pedal it. Well done the Beeb! If I were a dealer, I'd have an extra person manning the phone tomorrow.

    Trek Bruiser Conversion

Last year I picked up an old Bafang (i think) SWX01, cheap on eBay. I tested it, repaired a few spokes and it has sat around in my workshop waiting for the right bike to come along. I've been working away the odd night lately, so I thought it would be nice to have a bike I could take with me to...

    KU65 and PAS

Is it me, or is the KU65 a bit rubbish with a pedal sensor? I've just thrown together a new bike for testing (it will become my 'chuck it in the van' bike, more on that later...), and I was hoping to do without a throttle. The PAS seems to cut out at a very low speed (perhaps 12mph) even when...

    Who's riding about in Cornwall?

I've been working in Kernow so much lately that I've started to say dreckly, and put jam and cream on the wrong way round. On my travels I have spotted a few fellow 'lectrick bikers from my car: A Guy who rides the road from Helston to Redruth often. Going toward Redruth in the afternoon. A...

    Noisy motor with ku65 controller.

One of my bikes (well the Mrs bike to be precise) has an 8fun 24v, 250watt sensorless motor from a hilltopper kit by Clean Republic. I am running it from at 36v with the original controller (15amps peak). It's quite a nice little controller, but looks a little fragile, so I bought a KU65 to...
