Mid Drive for off trail and Hub Motor for flat commutes, true or false?

Confused now! I thought Woosh said that torque sensor bikes don't need a brake cutout because you need both torque and cadence sensors to be active to power the bike unlike a throttle that has priority over a cadence sensor. But if a torque sensor behaves a bit like a throttle in terms of...

How to become as punctureproof as possible.

I've tried plastic/Kevlar style inserts between tube and tyre but found they actually caused punctures due to chaffing! Since moving several years ago now to slime plus Marathon Plus 28mm 700C tyres I have had precisely one flat - due to the slime tube rubber perishing with age at the valve...

    Shimano nexus 8 sprocket size

Might be missing something here but thought Woosh and others warn against going too large on the crank ie 42 is better than 44. By the same argument 21 on the rear sprocket would surely be kinder to your Nexus than 19, though you wouldn't be able to go so fast in top gear.

Price and advice for mid drive conversion

Is there a reason why motors (either hub or crank) that have a candence sensor and throttle require a brake sensor to cut the power in an emergency whereas motors that don't have the throttle or use torque sensors don't seem to need a brake sensor? Could a torque sensor ever jamb fully on or...

Difference between delimited 250w motor VS 500w motor

I must have seen that video posted on here a dozen times and still can't work out what is the point it's trying to make!!!

If I gave these tyres do o need slime?

Most of the above posters are or have been correct. Marathon Pluses used to contain a Kevlar belt but that was discontinued and they moved to 5mm thick rubber about ten years ago, something to do with environmental concerns of waste Kevlar tyres I believe. So today's Marathon Pluses don't...

Recently built my next ebike with a mid-drive conversion kit & thought I share it with you guys.

Lovely bike. As a fellow fan of hub gears I wonder why you went for the 11 speed with crank motor combination rather than rear hub gears front hub motor or fewer hub gears? I'd been reading that the 11 speed wasn't the most robust of hub gears so might wear sooner with the extra stress of a mid...

Hub or Mid Drive? Any views?

Thinking about the comments on hub motors not being so good for hills where extra torque is needed compared to crank drives, why is it that so few appear to be available at 48V compared to 36V? If 48V is so good why is it not more commonly used? I read a previous thread comparing the TSDZ2 at...

Best ways of shortening and tidying up cables & wiring plus which connectors to use?

Thanks that's a lovely build. I'd considered an accessory bar but thought it would be too bulky and introduce clutter to the simplicity of drop bars - your photos demonstrate that needn't be the case. Well done!

Hub or Mid Drive? Any views?

So it sounds like commuting along a canal towpath I'm better off with a hub motor but for commuting on a hilly road the mid motor comes into its own? As I've never actually ridden either type of motor up a steep (say 1 in 10) incline are you suggesting I would be disappointed if I got a hub...

How to get the best from your battery

Advice seems to be that if you aren't regularly using the bike, store it at 50% charge, if you are using it regularly turn off the charger once it's 100% and never ever charge when very cold. I'll be keeping my bike (when I get or convert it) in a brick outbuilding which is mains electricity...

Best ways of shortening and tidying up cables & wiring plus which connectors to use?

Can't help on the cabling but can you tell us more about the bike? Looks fascinating and I'm in the process of working out how I can convert my own which looks very similar including drop bars, rear hub gears and probably ending up with a front hub motor. How do you find your conversion?

Help! Clothing? Mud guards? - Commute

That's why in the olden days we had heavy duty cycling capes. Never figured why they stopped making them but mine is 30 years old and still enables me to cycle through rain in work clothes and not need to change or dry off at the other end.

    Battery weather tight

Do they still make oilskin capes? Mine is around 30 years old and needing replacement fairly soon. It weighs a ton (well, perhaps a couple of kilograms) but that's what makes it so good - it doesn't flap all over the place in the wind like the flimsy polythene capes you see nowadays that make...

    Bike Maintenance

Last time I popped into my local Cycle Republic to ask if they could do some maintenance on my (non-e-)bike they said they couldn't as they weren't insured to work on bikes not bought from there! Did make me wonder what confidence I'd have in their ability to do anything useful on a bike bought...

Thinking of converting my commuting bike - questions and advice

What's the difference experienced by someone riding a bike with a "cheap speed based cadence sensor" and a "decent cadence system"? Surely all cadence sensors have the same two inputs, (1) are you turning the pedals (however slowly) and (2) what level have you set the controller to? As an...

    Introducing the Woosh Faro

Handsome loking bike. Do all the Woosh hub motor bikes have cadence detection pedal assist, or do any have torque detection?

Woosh Advice requested - powering e-bike lights

Because (if I understand correctly, given that I'm investigating how to convert my pushbike to a Woosh powered ebike), it's not advised to rig up a Woosh battery to LED lights. AA battery powered lights have a host and a half of issues of their own. And even if I managed to rig up lights to an...

Woosh Advice requested - powering e-bike lights

And if you have a front hub motor, e.g. because you are using hub gears? Bottle dynamo seems the only option, anyone using the AXA HR? Sounds like the best on the market by some margin but is it good enough? If you want a rear hub motor and a front hub dynamo but don't want derailleur gears...

Charging Ebike battery using an inverter from camper van battery

Can't answer the OP question directly but once when camping plugged in my mobile phone to the car foggy lighter to charge overnight. Next day phone was fully charged but car wouldn't start as it had a flat battery. No phone reception so couldn't call AA. Ended up connecting phone to car battery...
