think I saw another young e-biker a few days ago...

    When 15 mph isn't enough

ah, but you weren't the average 15 year old lad, but a very fit young athlete who loved bikes and happened to cycle to school as well :D - Maybe I would have done the same in the mid-late 1980s had things gone differently ; but when I was 15 my dad unfortunately thought bicycles were dangerous...

    When 15 mph isn't enough

Indeed - there is still a lot of "free speech" in this nation plus sociopathic people with mental health issues do often brag about crimes they haven't committed to try and "look hard" - the cops know this.. Over the last 15 years (yes I was a early adopter of the net) I have been part of...

think I saw another young e-biker a few days ago...

travelling in the opposite direction to me on Norwich Road (Mid Suffolk towards Ipswich) - a chap in this 20s/30s on what appeared to be a Sparta Ion (do any non powered push bikes have the same distinctive curved frame?)

Old Bikey, how a PowaByke morphed to fully suspended.

excellent - I really wish there were more ladies around like yourself :D - hope that don't sound patronising as I mean it sincerely and I feel strongly about the gender imbalance in engineering in England... if you have spare time, ever thought of going to schools etc and encouraging younger...

    Old Bikey and the footpump.

I've had two of these car type pumps similarly disintegrate over the years.. also reminds me of how I ended up having to fix a flat on new years eve 2003/04 whilst enroute to a warehouse party outside Reading - ironically ended up fixing the tyre in Halfords car park of all places! Still got...

    How do they do that?

I think the answer is both - mass produced bikes are supplied with machine built wheels, but those with the money/time can get their wheels built by hand (or build them themselves, as others on this forum have done..) Building Bicycle Wheels by Sheldon Brown this dutch company makes the...

    When 15 mph isn't enough

where I currently live most utility cyclists are going at 10-14mph. I have not seen many drop handlebar bikes going fast, other than what appear to be middle aged and retired people training for races etc.. I do remember a few more more "faster" utility cyclists in Reading, but I got the...

What were the main worries queries you had before purchasing your e-bike?

did that student ever provide the results of his survey? (I did do some googling but found nothing..)

    Cycling on the up!!

yep terrain is always going to be an issue. I do notice less people cycle in Stowmarket (or if they do they cover smaller distances) as there are very steep hills on either side of the town, whilst places like Ipswich and Felixstowe are much flatter (though not devoid of hills)..

    help, battery not charging

I wonder if there are two versions of the charger in circulation? Mine (from Shenzen ABT Electronics) has a big label mentioning the red/green colour change of the LED during charging - this is also repeated in the technical specifications which are on the manufacturers website...

    Cycling on the up!!

the numbers in Ipswich have definitely held up despite weather and falling petrol prices. Also there do seem to be more 20-30 somethings on bikes. I suspect though this is also because of this area being very multicultural - with a lot of the younger cyclists being recent immigrants from...

Blog entry with pics from my last ride out

Wycombe? fair play mate, I remember a few years back riding from the outskirts of Reading to High Wycombe on my (unpowered!) Dawes Horizon in the middle of the night to find a rave in disused warehouse - went via the Thames path (to avoid the A roads) and got bogged down in the mud but got there...

Any lights available with metal bracket/body

I remember seeing these on bicycles as made as late as the 1980s - Also 3 volt batteries for these lamps, both of which are no longer made these days (I think the bike manufacturers stopped supplying bikes with these brackets). That said, I've never had a Cateye lamp come adrift and thats even...

    help, battery not charging

This isn't anything to worry about. As described in an earlier post, the connector is the sort often used for microphone connections on two way radio equipment about 20 years ago (particularly CB radios). The ring would screw on to the connector found on the battery if the hole was around it...

    help, battery not charging

the green light on the charger should turn to red when the battery is actually charging. have you checked the charger fuse with a multimeter? Should the charger be dodgy, I think you can get replacement chargers from Powacycle...

    help, battery not charging

which indicator lights? the ones on the battery, or the charger? on my charger what normally happens is when you plug it in (with the battery connected) after a few seconds the charger light turns red (and there is a audible "click", probably a relay inside the charger) - once the battery is...

    help, battery not charging

I haven't looked inside mine as its still in warranty but inside the battery are safety fuses like the ones found in a car fusebox. This thread may help, but fuses blow for a reason so it would be worth checking the charge current as suggested in the thread below...

    Panasonic Battery Issues

Not at all uncommon these days on smaller items of mains powered electronic equipment. The smaller plug is a two pin "europlug" and the adaptor is a UK requirement as we use fused plug tops unlike other EU nations. This allows manufacturers to use the same mains lead across the EU, and...

    When 15 mph isn't enough

where did the 15mph come from? was it simply picked out of a "eurochapeau" or was some research done to arrive at a "safe" figure?
