    Tyres

You won't go far wrong with Schwalbe, and I wouldn't worry about a few grammes on an ebike - better to have more meat on the tyre. Smart Sams are knobbly-ish, so biased a little towards trail rather than tarmac.

kalkhoff endevour bs10 or focus jalfira premium xt

As has been pointed out, a Kalkhoff is better equipped for commuting. How tall are you? The 29er wheels and tyres on the Focus make for a very high front end. If you are anything less than 6ft, you may struggle with cross bar clearance. Not such a problem for continuous rides, but it will...

    Eddiepj, Haibike feedback?!

Speaking of feedback, Croxden of this parish has been falling down on his new bike reporting duties.

    Tour de France and ebikes?!

As someone didn't quite say: "They would, wouldn't they?" For the council and their ilk, it's all free tickets, gladhanding and hospitality trailers. They have made a prophecy - huge interest - and are desperate for it to come true. Cycle racing is a minority pursuit within a minority...

Electric Bikes. My Learning curve part 2

Suppose it might if the retailer - or anyone - knew what is involved in registering a de-restricted bike.

something good to say about BH service :)

Is that about 35 miles? I did the roughly the same today on the Coast to Coast from Sunderland to Annfield Plain in County Durham. Long - miles - climb on the way out, plus a gusty headwind. Used a bit less battery power than last week - wind was not so constant. Still enough of a ride for...

something good to say about BH service :)

I saw a man on a BH today. Don't see many ebikes, and most of the ones I do see are cheap, so I was pleased to see someone on something decent. He didn't stop, but appeared to be bowling along nicely, quiet motor and all spokes intact as far as I could tell.

Looking for commuter bike for myself and wife

Agreed. If you are in this for the long term, buy the best bike you can afford. The Grace ticks the 'quality bike' box, so if you like it, buy it. There are lots of other quality bikes for less money, and you may end up drowning in a sea of choices. Mudguards and a rack are needed for...

    A few Bosch questions

As has been said, up the gears a few notches and the Bosch walk system gives plenty of grunt. Two snags, it's never very quick and the pedals turn under load making a shin scrape easy to do.

    A few Bosch questions

The Badass dongle works seamlessly and simply clips on to the sensor on the chainstay. Much simpler than the wired in one. http://www.badassebikes.com/en/ I'm guessing you have the earlier drive/control system, but I can't see why the Badass - or other dongle - should not work. I found Lui...

    CANNONDALE, CUBE or KTM ?

Hardly a lie, more an opinion - and one I agree with. In easy conditions - flat, no wind - I reckon the battery on my Rose/Bosch could last 100+ miles on eco setting.

    Possible Haibike purchase.

Er, isn't that how you are supposed to tackle a hill on a geared bike?

How long should my ebike chain last?

I could suggest to you the more expensive parts will last longer, but you won't truly know until you try them with your riding conditions and cleaning regime. When I had the gearing changed on the Rose, the mechanic checked the chain for wear - he could measure hardly any with his Park Tools...

    Possible Haibike purchase.

Nice one, Martin. Too many businessmen - not just on here - expect it all their own way. And looking on the bright side, the way Eddie uses his bikes, you might be better off not being (directly) responsible for after sales.

How long should my ebike chain last?

What sort of bike is it? I reckon the original equipment chain was about the cheapest KMC make, say retail about £6. My Rose has a Shimano Dura-ace chain which retails at about £35. Spending £33 on a chain and cassette is not going to get you anything of good quality, so I'm afraid the...

Can anyone recommend a good bike for hill climbing and distance

Very smart, I quite fancy a go on that and we are not so many miles apart.

    Possible Haibike purchase.

Pleased you are sorted. I've been thinking a Haibike, but not the dearest one, might suit you. It should do the work much better than the BH, although even with a Haibike I suggest you avoid the foot-deep mud.
