    MS sufferer

Two forum members managed to get grants from the MS society for a significant contribution to their electric bikes. If you can afford it, a recumbent trike would be a good solution. add your own electric kit or buy one ralready electric (more expensive)...

A mystery rear motor with 36V controller and 48V battery

OK, what you have is generally well matched apart from the motor being too fast for the power you're giving it, so it's running with full power more than the controller is happy with. You'll be OK as long as you're gentle on the power at low rpm. You probably didn't read anything wrong, but...

    Voilamart hub motor not driving

There's nothing in the controller that can cause that problem. Only if you had been fiddling with the settings and set it to run in the other direction, but then you'd see the wheel turning slowly backwards when you lifted it off the ground.

    Help! BMSbattery controller confusion

A long time ago, I read that it's not possible to have a sinewave controller with 9 mosfets, so the ones with 9 in the designation are de facto square wave. I have seen controllers with 9 mosfets labelled as sine wave, but i don't know whether this is just sharp practice or genuine. Anyway...

    Help! Freego Hawk no power

Just to clarify the situation. With everything connected and switched on, please confirm that you have 5v between the red and black wires on the 5-way connector. The next bit you said doesn't make sense, so please clarify. After confirming the 5v on the red and black wires, measure the voltage...

    Dead Battery with Controller

I'll try and get the info i need a different way. Using about half throttle so that the motor is continuously pulling, but not with too much power. Look at the LCD and tell me how many watts it's showing like that before the motor cuts out, or better still, lift the wheel off the ground and run...

    Hi from Mid Wales.

i hope you get it sorted soon. I can understand your frustration. I can't understand businesses that treat customers like that.

    Electric Trike Conversion

Don't bother with 1500w because the battery will be very expensive. How much do you want to spend on the elctrical kit? Can you build the motor into a wheel yourself or do you need a ready-made motor wheel?

    Vado handlebars

You can buy new brake cables in Wilkos for about £2, and it takes about 2 minutes to fit them. Your LBS appears to be useless and a rip-off. To do the whole thing would take an experienced bike mechanic about 10 minutes. A typical charge is £35 an hour, with maybe a minimum 1/2 hour charge, so...

Relationship between wheel speed and e-bike speed

The speed and rpm are the same, regardless of the number of wheels or motors. When you're turning or the road is cambered, it's still the same, but it depends which direction you want to measure the speed. Say you were riding along a straight road at 15 km/h. Most people would say that your...

    Dead Battery with Controller

I still don't quite get it. When you start off, does the motor work and does it give full power? Does it work with the pedal sensor? Does it work with the throttle? Do you have a throttle? Still no picture of what's on your handlebars, where the control system is.

    Electric Trike Conversion

You'd be wasting your time with a motor much more than 500w because the wheel won't get enough traction. it'll just spin. How fast do you want? What is the width between the forks?

Show a photograph. What you gave us is too vague. We need wheel size, drop-out width, general layout, etc.

Stealth bomber frame ebay any good?

Forks and suspension unit are going to be expensive. The rest of the stuff you can find on Ebay or swap over from your other bike. You'll need seat, seatpost, gears shifters, crankset, pedals, brakes, front wheel, handlebars and chain. When you've finished, you'd have an electric bike that...

    Dead Battery with Controller

You bike has a simple problem that's easy to fix. The only problem is that you're not describing what's going on, so it's not possible to tell you where to check. You started off saying that it was dead, then you talked about riding 200M. Also, I asked you to show pictures of your bike from...

    Help! Freego Hawk no power

Don't order anything just yet. That's just reminded me. Some of the Freegos from that time didn't have hall sensors in the motor, so you can't use those controllers that Neal recommended. Anyway, the first thing is to do tests to find out what's wrong. If you don't have a 5-way (possibly 6)...

    Wattage conundrum

    Don't confuse watts with watt-hours. An 11.6Ah 36v battery holds a charge of 36 x 11.6 = 417.6 watt-hours. If your controllerwas delivering a continuous 10 amps to the motor, that would be 10 x 36 = 360 wattts and it would last for 417.3/360 = 1.16 hours.

    Help! Freego Hawk no power

How to test and ebike. In this case start with test 2, then do test 6: 1. Measure the voltage at controller's battery connector. Obviously should be battery voltage. 36v - 42v for a 36v battery would be an acceptable range. 2. Measure the voltage on the 5v rail. You can measure that between any...
