    Should it be legal....?

Just to re-itterate what flecc has already said. This is an eBike community. I have not looked at the thread about your build, but from what you say, I suspect that you have built yourself a mechanically propelled vehicle. Be very clear, that is not an eBike and has nothing to do with the spirit...

    bank loans for replacement batteries.

I'm sure that some printer manufacturers sell the product with slim profit margins and recoup money on the printer cartridges. There is probably an element of this going on with bike batteries.

Up to 50% off e-bikes at bikester

Thanks, there are some interesting bikes. Some of the Panasonic powered Ortler bikes look very similar to Kalkhoff models, particularly the Agattu 8 speed. Are Ortler produced by Derby Cycles? The Bosch bikes look interesting too and seem to be reasonably priced. Where is Bikester based?

e-Bike of the Year 2011 (Unlimited Budget)

Just thought I'd bump this thread back up as time is running out. It had slipped down the board onto page 4, but I know some of you think that is the best place for it!

Kalkhoff 2012 electric bikes at 50cycles

Thanks for all the replies to my question regarding bikes costing between two and three thousand pounds. I have always subscribed to the policy of, "buy cheap and you will buy twice" so have no hesitation in paying for quality. However, I think that there is a point where any extra money...

Kalkhoff 2012 electric bikes at 50cycles

That's all fair comment. However, can anyone tell me what extras I get for two, three or even four thousand pounds more than I paid for my bike? I have asked this question before and never really received an answer. I have a Kalkhoff Pro-Connect (2008 vintage). The bike cost £1495. It has been...

    The Trapped Bird

That's a nice story Dave. Well done and I would like to think that I would do the same if ever the situation arose.

Kalkhoff 2012 electric bikes at 50cycles

I'm tempted by the 20% off the batteries. My Panasonic battery is 3 years old and still manages my 20 mile round trip commute, but I don't know how much longer it will last. Will it fail suddenly or will it continue with a slow decline in capacity. If its the latter, I may eek another year out...

Kalkhoff 2012 electric bikes at 50cycles

The Agattu C8 Impulse looks very nice. I like how the battery has been formed so that the bike retains more of a conventional shape, rather than the elongated rear end that is usual with the Panasonic driven systems. I have always thought that the Agattu is a good all round bike. The price is...

A funny thing happened on the way to the bank

TwoBikes & flecc, that's the one, thanks for posting the info. I have seen this bike and same rider going around the local area for at least the past ten years. It certainly seems a very capable bike able to achieve respectable speeds uphill on throttle only. Old heavy technology it may be...

A funny thing happened on the way to the bank

I first became aware of electric bikes about 10 years ago when I saw an old boy on a bike whizzing around town at speeds that were not consistent with either the look of the bike or his age. I have no idea what sort it was, but it looked like a Raleigh RSW which I think later became a Raleigh...

    Bad News

I don't understand BAGB's opposition. I don't particularly want or need increased power, but I can realise that other people do and for very valid reasons. Surely the net result of any power increase can only be more backsides on bicycle saddles. To what extent this happens will remain to be...

    e-Bike of the Year 2011

Speaking personally, I like the early phase down of the older Panasonic units and the barely perceptible cut-out. The older system encourages the rider to work harder, which I like. It provides plenty of power at start up to get the mass of rider and bike moving and then trickles energy into the...

Fully agree. The battery cost table should be a Sticky and updated periodically. Of course, it doesn't take into account battery quality and expected service life, all of which have a bearing on overall cost. But it does give a good starting point for comparison. How do we make this happen?

No, I can't. Thanks for posting, now I know to never consider any bike fitted with anything made by Bionx.

    bosch batteries.

I agree, £500 is far too much and £600 crosses the line into rip-off territory. People will still buy bikes fitted with these units, but there will be a greater number who are put off buying by this greed. I'm sure that Bosch will have done their homework and will meet their forecast proffits...
