Is it time to empty Euro bank accounts?

John Major is the most honest politician and a realist, Kenneth Clarke was the bravest chancellor and quantitative easing is the best form of taxation. Why nobody on this forum has anything positive to say about this coalition goverment? They are doing the right thing for all of us considering...

all round bike/conversion for uphill commute and rough farm tracks?

I'd go for the full sus crank drive Tonaro Big Hit.

Storck Raddar Multitask OR KTM Macina Race OR What?

Be interested to know if and how it feels any different to ride a bike with a torque sensor instead of nomal variable PAS. I can unsderstand somebody wanting a throttle to rest their legs but surely, we already have a very good torque sensor built into our legs.

    Kalkhoff's shameful documentation

Alex, you have hit the nail on the head. Perhaps all Bosch bikes should have a throttle. A while ago, I stopped at my LBS asking the guys there what they thought of the Shimano hub gears. Half of them have never come across one, the other half confess that they did not have much experience with...

    Kalkhoff's shameful documentation

Sorry if it's off the subject here but spinalot, why did you choose a hub gear? I suspect that some manufacturers choose components to suit a price bracket instead of trying to make a 'ride and forget' bike. So, for £1800, let's spend £200 on forks, £200 on gears etc.

    Very worried

I would do this: Pump up the tyre then sit on the rear rack. Your weight wil keep the chain under tension. Use your left hand to center the wheel, use the other hand to tighten up the nuts.

Bosch Tuning dongles arrived today - 50kph cut off..

50kph/90kph is the cutoff speed, does not mean that a bike with Bosch DU25 motor can reach 50kph.

Bosch Tuning dongles arrived today - 50kph cut off..

the dongle is piggybacked on the two wire magnetic sensor suggesting te use of an inverting charge pump . The circuit would use every other pulse to reverse charge a small capacitor. On the next pulse, the capacitor is then discharged back into the sensor, making the pulse disappear.

    electric bike hire anyone?

Would it be useful to have a list of e-bike rentals on this forum? Just a thought, looking out from my office window.

    21st Century Sinclair C5?

The 1913 Gyrocar weighed 2.5 tonnes, the Honda U3-X a mere 10 kgs. That shows how much progress has been made in gyroscopic use in transport. The C1 could be half as agile as the Imperial Speeders in Star Wars! Just imagine that!

    21st Century Sinclair C5?

I can think of two situations where the gyroscopes can be a big help: it starts like a car and a better chance of escaping serious injuries when hit by a lorry. The LIT may not be ideal at 120mph but around 40-60mph, I can't remember a more agile design.

    21st Century Sinclair C5?

Using two gyroscopes to give the bike the stability of a small car is a fantastic idea. The LIT bike is surely safer and much better suited to commuting than the electric bikes don't you agree?

Article: Prices for Lithium Batteries on the Rise

Talk about greed and profiteering! It's amazing to see that techincal grade Lithium carbonate went up from $2.8 to $3 per pound, or less than £1 increase in raw material cost per battery in e-bikes could be used to jack up the end user price by so much.

    E-cat: Fantastic new energy source.

The patent that Andrea Rossi applied for is for a nickel mesh + hydrogen - it's simple old industrial chemistry, used commonly to produce of ammonia or sulfuric acid. It's definitely not nuclear science. Cold fusion is muon-catalysed. Muons are very heavy electrons, heavy enough to pull...

    Torque

If you put a gearbox to the rear wheel hub motor, you will need two clutches instead of one. The arrangement sprocket for chain, clutch, gearbox input, gearbox, clutch, motor needs to fit in the 140mm of the rear dropout. The cost of the mechanical gears alone (without the motor) will be in the...

Will the transition from fossil fuels be similar to that from Petrol to Diesel?

Is there a place for microcars on our roads? The Twizy exists in two versions, two seats with 15kw motor and single seat, no driving licence required sort of moped with roof, 4kw motor. Maybe there is a market for microcars after all.

Will the transition from fossil fuels be similar to that from Petrol to Diesel?

I fully accept your view, flecc. They can fit a bigger motor but I don't know if they can make a good controller for this kind of power. The Chinese still have a long, long way to go.

Will the transition from fossil fuels be similar to that from Petrol to Diesel?

Do you remember the promise of fission producing electricity too cheap to meter? It was in 1954 wasn't it? before that, Einstein could not envisage nuclear power 'because one has to shatter atoms at will' in 1932. We progress, we learn along the way. Before fusion, I reckon we will be using a...
