they vote for the ruling party. Imagine Covid kills half a million of them. Kier Starmer will inherit the votes of the survivors.

agreed. but they don't have much else to offer. Test and trace after 50,000 new cases a day is nigh impossible without a compulsory app. Transmission at workplace is my biggest worry. I have now closed my shop to callers and prepare to switch to shifts like we did during lockdown to reduce Covid...

antibodies tests gave London 17% exposed to Covid, national average 7% so it's nearer to herd immunity but still a long way from being immune to Covid.

agreed. also half of Swedes live alone.

Even if 50,000 people get infected per day, it will take about 3 years to achieve herd immunity. The UK economy can't support that much destruction. I think we should follow Sweden.

they have given up on test and trace. Vaccines are no longer ready this year. BJ wants to be seen taking action on Covid, not that he has a solution. In a few weeks, hospitals will be full of Covid patients. What will the government do then?

Thank you jonah for mentioning Woosh. Availability is better than in the last 3 months but still dire until January. For the OP, I would suggest the Woosh Camino. They are in stock at the moment. https://wooshbikes.co.uk/?camino

Help! Advice on an ebike conversion

hydraulic brakes are good but the only practical solution to give your Giant Boulder Aluxx 6000 hydraulic brakes is to use the expensive Magura kit because your bike does not have mounting lugs for disc brakes. As you said, the kit will cost more than the bike. It's just not worth the expense...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

the second wave is coming and it will be bigger than the first wave but as flecc said, it only produces a tiny change in life expectancy of the general population. Still, as I was watching a reportage on COVID ward in a hospital in Marseille yesterday (BBC News 24) - I came to think that perhaps...

    Beginners question about hills

there is no solution for your case. Your old bike uses a cadence sensor, your new bike torque sensor. That difference is fundamental. You have to pedal harder to get more out of your new bike. The only solution I can think of is to change the cassette to one that has more teeth on the granny gear.

apparently, the problem is the handling of the sample containers. Their labels get ripped, smudged etc. At the moment, we have too many contractors, nobody is blamed for the mess. If I were to organise the tests, I would offer mainly home test kits, distributed by local pharmacists on regular...

Thomas P. had the same problem. He designed 3 support pieces for the HL battery base. The good thing about them is you don't need to install the rivnuts. If anyone needs the STL files or the pieces printed (you may not need all three), let me know.

and also this cartoon: I wonder how many people believe that the EU would blockade NI? BJ now accepts to fill in the EU food standard form so it's a non-argument. How many people do not know that the NI Joint Committee has agreed a few changes (albeit small wording changes) to the WA? Can...

How to get higher top speed

traffic flow? in town, you'd be lucky to get 10mph in your car. Legal bikes are already much faster than cars, especially at traffic lights.

pure speculations. The only area French fishermen care about access is around Bay St Michel. They fish there for centuries. But now UK claim EEZ around the Channel Islands. I am pretty convinced that France will retain access of that area and UK would keep the North Sea EEZ.

How to get higher top speed

any bike capable of assisting at over 25kph will need to be insured to be road legal, you are also obliged to wear a helmet. Getting a number plate is relatively easy, insurance is difficult to arrange.

I think you won't see UK complaining to France about people crossing the Channel because UK authorities know that France is not obliged to stop immigrants doing so. What UK authorities can do and indeed do, is to pay French police to do the work for them. Same with fencing the Channel Tunnel...
