    Start cheap - advice please...

it would help if you post a link to the bike you are interested in so members can help you assess its suitability but it's most likely that a £100 bike won't carry your 17st up any hill.

Battery manufacture date and effect on it's lifespan.

storage may affect your battery in two ways: reduce its capacity a little and damage your battery a little. However, if the battery is maintained correctly, the risk is small. For storage, the battery needs to be kept at room temperature (18-21 C) in a state of charge between 20% and 80% charge...

that huge handlebar, certainly eye-catching. A bit of a cargo bike though. I wonder how heavy the bike is.

    new woosh conversion kits

The kits are not difficult to fit, we are talking about a couple of hours for the job but the front BPM motor will definitely rip up most forks. I think it's sensible to pay an LBS for the job.

    Bike to work scheme sucks

I don't think you can claim mileage to go to work. If your employer gives you money to cover your cost then it should be declared as benefit in kind and subject to National Insurance.

is it only expensive bikes that have throttle mode no need to peddle?

a thottle is only needed when you want to rest your legs and possibly as an aid when starting on hills. I do without for a year now and I don't miss it.

    new woosh conversion kits

it's not the 8-Fun BPM CST, it's the cheaper and less powerful XF08C. http://ebikemotor.en.alibaba.com/product/1648766022-211887319/36v_250w_350w_rear_cassette_motor_hub_motor_kit_e_bike_kit.html

    new woosh conversion kits

I don't think kits can be made legal. The BBS01 may have EN15194 sticker on it, the hub motors may have 250W sticker on it but the bike cannot have EN15194 sticker on it. On motors with Hall, no pedalling is required. On motors without Hall (only 3-phase wires), square wave controllers do not...

Which bike for the heavier rider? Wisper, Oxygen, Woosh, RooDog?

His name is ronnyuk - not 'Ronin yuk', also, most bike shops don't have BPM or the new Panasonic motors. If they did, they won't shift their old stock.

    Insane 700amp 55v multisport thruster

it did go for 5 minutes - may be 2-3 miles. Yes, it's possible because the motors have very high RPM, may be as much as 600-1000 RPM. Biggest problem is half of the energy is converted into noise.

    Controller Peak Watts

Find a 15% hill and go up it as fast as you can. If you try to max out the controller indoors, just think of what would happen if the motor dumps 700W into the rim or the brakes, you'll smell burning within 5 seconds.

    European regulations, one more time

as far as e-bikes are concerned, the conversion rate is £2,000 for a 2,000 euro bike. You can't put it down to transport costs, so who is profiteering?

    European regulations, one more time

there may be far fewer than 150,000 on UK roads. If you think UK sales are 30,000 a year, I reckon about 30,000 are frequently in use, another 30 to 60,000 occasionally in use, the rest sleep in garages.

    European regulations, one more time

it sounds a bit like sour grapes. Their website does not misrepresent the situation regarding their BS10 and the customers are invited to check out Kalkhoff own website for peace of mind. So caveat emptor as they say. Live and let live.

    European regulations, one more time

you are quite right to call for stricter enforcement on public roads but I can't see which ones of your competitors are selling non-compliant bikes. Are you referring to conversions like mine?

is it only expensive bikes that have throttle mode no need to peddle?

I don't think you can change the behaviour of the throttle on Chinese bikes. It is not programmable by the dealers and it will remain slow start to avoid panicking riders. Only bikes with torque sensor will give you instant push off. Almost all German bikes have torque sensor. The only current...

    faster alien

it looks like there is no speed limiter on your kit, then it is already derestricted. You can't get it go any faster.
