Ebike still legal if I run 36V motor at 48V and limit speed to 15mph?

there is no test specific to the LCD. There are proposals to limit the assist level and make the bike tamperproof but they are still not codified.

nobody tests the LCD. You don't have 'EN15194 compatible LCDs' nor 'Non EN15194 compliant LCDs' . Manufacturers can password protect the settings but customers have also the right to access some settings. Responsibility lies entirely with those who alter the settings to go faster.

Ebike still legal if I run 36V motor at 48V and limit speed to 15mph?

on most Chinese bikes, the speed limit is stored and activated by the display. That's why the speed limiter is a simple on/off switch. If you remove the display, you can still ride the bike but can't change assist level nor speed.

Ebike still legal if I run 36V motor at 48V and limit speed to 15mph?

the user is the one bearing responsibility for altering the speed limit. If he didn't alter the setting, he would never be caught in the first place. Therefore, the possibility of alteration alone would not be sufficient to cause any legal hassle.

    48v on XF07

the 48V SWX02 kit or 48V DWG22C kit would power the XF07. You need 48V KM529 LCD, 48V Lishui controller, 48V battery. All the cablings and all dimensions remain same so the 'transplant' could be done in about 15 minutes. It does give you more torque but would rapidly damage the XF07's internal...

I thought wheezy would probably plod ... of course you would need gears to switch between 15mph to 30mph.

that's the thing. Lots of ideas are plausible on paper but when it comes to actual production, the only sure bet is when the idea yields a reduction in weight even though weight is not important when you have an electric motor.

The throttle law applies to the trade, not to the users. It bans manufacturers to fit a twist and go throttle on new bikes. Throttles on kits and retrofit throttles are ignored. The law does not need changing on this. When you exceed the speed limit, you are either on a downhill or on flat...

Sanity check my thinking, paralysed by choice, please help!

the time for hub gears is disappearing. The only reason to have gears at all on an electric bike is because of the legislation stopping manufacturers turning e-bikes into low power motorbikes. If you have a throttle, there is no need to change gear in the first place. If you don't want to use...

I suspect that these platforms are meant to play with other people's money. It's like the early days of the mobile phones. Eventually, the surviving small players are gobbled up by the large players. At the time they sold, each mobile phone user was worth something like £100 a head for the...

I think you tried too hard linking twitter's share price with the exodus of Trumpists to parler. Shares in both FB and Twitter follow the same pattern since COVID struck China. It's only because FB's capitalisation ($616BN) is much bigger than Twitter's ($23BN) that Twitter's share volatility is...

    Optimum wheel diameter for e-bikes

small wheels are good on steep gradient because the motor yield gradually worsens when your speed drops to near stalling. What people need to be aware is that your motor is far from perfect. When you ride at its optimal speed, the motor converts about 85% of electrical energy into mechanical...

Woosh Big Bear ... Throttle ??

Twist and go throttle is what you referred to. the new law bans manufacturers and importers to fit twist and go throttles. It does not apply to users, kits and retrofit add-on throttles. To get round the restriction, full throttles are either no longer twist and go, requiring pedalling before...
