The ebike market is growing at an amazing rate!!

I can agree that ebikes are becoming more acceptable. Just yesterday in the last of the fine weather, I was viewing local houses under construction and got talking to a foreman , who had recently purchased a conventional bike, on medical advice to strengthen his knee, and he was very envious of...

The ebike market is growing at an amazing rate!!

.. you might assume so, since you are contributing the labour yourself, but but there are economies of scale and purchasing individual parts can mean a multiple of postal , customs or travel charges. Swings and roundabouts

The ebike market is growing at an amazing rate!!

.. not to mention the grant being given by the French government for specific ebike purchases. There is an incentive to getting them used for the short local 3 to 5 km shopping trips.

Cycled around the world in 79 days!

A tremendous feat, particularly as it was continual for such a long time. My longest distance I think was cycle trekking from Tay head forest park to Forth William .. with panniers etc. .. we would have stopped sooner but there was no accomodation over what was bleak countryside.

Hello from accident prone of Worcestershire!

Andy, without prying, and noting that you are still young enough, how sure are you that your head injury has caused permanent damage? Decisions made in haste etc. Unless it has, why not keep the bike , keep the battery charged and wait until spring and then try. . The resale value is pretty...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Ongoing reliability of Kalkhoff/Focus Impulse 2 motors

When you buy a bike with en15194 sticker on it you are fully legal. The manufacturer or EU agent has certified that it is compliant. If you modify the ebike by perhaps altering its controller , supply voltage or dongling it, you are no longer necessarily legal. If it were subsequently shown that...

    Battery Chargers

Just took the opportunity to look at the specs for both on the Bosch website. The 4amp charger is listed as silent and working at a fixed input voltage 220 230 v . This implies that it is a traditional linear power supply of a design which is 50 plus years old. Simple, robust and with a heavier...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

From a talk by ex Irish government minister, who had responsibility for working through the austerity measures in the last government , and current leader of the Irish labour party, at the British labour party conference either . Today or yesterday. I am not inclined to go with the word anger...

    Pedal resistance

Actually I was going to suggest that the viscosity will go down with speed. There is stiction in the static case and as rotation begins a film of lubricant adheres to the moving surfaces. Likewise as the grease heats up, it's viscosity falls. There is of course rotational inertia but that is not...

    Two-tier justice

Have read this and the accompanying BBC report. A number of thoughts come to mind first the flippant if her desire is to be a surgeon she is getting a head start. Bosch computer (HMI) not charging

I have just checked on line and there are lithium ion rechargable cells in the button format. Voltage the normal 3.6 v but didn't get amphr rating, so from their size, perhaps 40 minutes is not unreasonable. Other versions from Panasonic etc are 3 v and depending on diameter and thickness eg...

Need for 8mi one way commute want style and ease

At your age and unless you have a specific medical condition like arthritis, the problem is moot. The cadence type control on a hub motor only need to sense rotation in the chain wheel .. so you could in fact dispense with the chain altogether and they will propel the bike... Not suggesting it...

    Bosch computer (HMI) not charging

There is reference in my Bosch handbook to a lithium ion rechargable cell in the intuvia. If there was not how could he get 40 minutes usage? . Button cells are not usually rechargable however. If there is one it could be used to retain the memory contents of say the clock and the odometer.
