    Brexit, for once some facts.

Well job security is ok then, the only problem is when one is seen as an unnecessary evil!!

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Welcome fellow physicist, but back to facts. Viable is an interesting term . As a boating type you will be familiar with fishing quotas , restricted fishing times etc, so the prospect of multiple trawlers holed up in port for weeks on end, and then periodically released for a few days... Is...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

.. guilty as charged m'lud .. as an aside, there is legislation on the books in Ireland about not allowing nuclear power, ( don't ask), yet we have a couple of cables going to your fair land, and you in turn have a few going on into France. So whether we like it or not we are getting this...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

.. as someone who had responsibility for teams of engineers at chartered level, I eventually formed the opinion of the following discipline specific attributes 1. Electronic engineers quite spoken, retiring types , never argumentative, but very sure of their ground, with the flexibility of a...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

My first posting on this topic, indicated that all options are needed , so certainly tidal has to be on the agenda. It's major advantage is that it has good energy density and is predictable. I also recall the fabulous summer of 76.. , . And if anything that proves the point about technology mix...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

.. sorry Zatlan, but this is a topic you obviously are not well versed in. Engineers would tend to use metres per second as the measure of wind speed. The power of the wind increases by the cube of the wind speed The wind resource is significantly higher at 100 m above sea level than at the...

Would compulsory insurance for all electric bikes put you off?

.. I could see a monty python or a Benny. Hill sketch coming on as an armada of those scooters mow down armies...

.. fair play to you Woosh, you have been consistent. Those reasons have been articulated, again and again, but equally the EU does not want to be dictated to by the UK, and insists that if it wants to play in the same league it must use the same ball, use the same goalposts, and use the same...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

.. flecc, I often agree with you, but this topic is too broad for simple soundbites. Oil provided a magic bullet for energy needs, but will soon have priced itself out of contention. There is a finite amount, and the zones where it found are becoming more and more inhospitable or the...

Would I be dumb to buy an leccy bike?

.. not morbid, just unrealistic.. at 48 you could anticipate another 20 plus years and if you don't expect ebikes to get better and more desirable then! !!! What you might like to think about is the style of cycling you want to do. I don't know the shape of your current bike but it's name...

OG, I approve your stance, but you will never find that 23000 death certs identifying pollution as the primary cause. Death certs are much more specific and proximate. What there should be are peer reviewed statistical analysis of health consequences for specific levels of aerosols, not just...

Would I be dumb to buy an leccy bike?

A number of points .. if you can do 19 miles in a hour plus you are pretty fit already. So taking the question posed yeah maybe an ebike is not yet the way to go. Many of the posters here are 20 plus years up on our current age. If you don't need it yet, the bikes next year and the year after...

Would I be dumb to buy an leccy bike?

There well may be, and of course logically there must be this efficiency loss , but my experience is that it is minimal, be is probably equivalent to the loss in hub gears as compared to dereilliur... Taking the chain off is actually difficult because it fits so neatly over the smaller cog.

Would I be dumb to buy an leccy bike?

If you are strong enough to average 17 mph without power assistance, then you will have no difficulty in at least getting the same average speed with power assist. The extra weight of the bike is irrelevant. if there are hills on the route, then turbo boost will make hill climbing at 15.5mph...

I sorry flecc and stab, I follow fleccs arguement and your explanation of it, but must respectfully disagree. I don't want to get sucked into UK politics, a topic which does not interest me, but if your analysis is correct, then I would have to consider Mr Corbyns behaviour as craven. The UK is...

Porformance drop off with lower battery %age.?

Putting an additional 4v in series will increase your overall voltage up from a nominal 36 to 40 v or about 10% . Whether it will damage , will depend on the safety margin in the controller , d8veh, will say no bother, and I am inclined reluctantly to agree with him, but it is bringing the...
