Dalston fatal e-bike crash rider 'going too fast' - Court Case

Charlie Alliston was not accused of careless driving but a different charge with less penalty, careless riding - that's why his sentence was only 1 1/2 years. Hanlon is accused of careless driving. If that charge is proven, I expect his sentence may be double. My point is still the same...

Belt or chain, derailleur or hub?

you may find some shops still have Raleigh Motus with Bosch motor and Shimano Nexus 7-speed. there are few choices because manufacturers of hub gears simply do not like the high torque of the crank motors that may damage their gears.

    The Law

if you were involved in an accident and your speedometer is found to be faulty, then you can sue your suppliers. On the other hand, if you derestrict your bike then you will be on your own.

Belt or chain, derailleur or hub?

The hub gear is not maintenance free and it still requires adjustments albeit rarely. The problem with derailleur is not so much in the mech but the aluminium hanger which is exposed to accidental bending and rupture but it is low cost and easy to replace. the most reliable, least maintenance...

no, I don't think that, I pointed out that the range of punishment for riding a bike is lesser than that of driving a moped, 2 years jail instead of 5 years plus unlimited fines.

the wording merely confirms the status that his bike is considered a moped. If his bike was speed limited, he may have been charged with careless riding instead of careless driving. Careless riding (or furious riding) carries a lesser range of penalty and not unlimited fines.

Belt or chain, derailleur or hub?

compararison should be under similar conditions. If your belt is protected by a fully enclosed case and drive a hub gear, then it should be compared to a chain in fully enclosed case and driving a hub gear. I made some carbon belt bikes in the past too: Woosh Zephyr-C, 2017 with Nexus hub gear.

Belt or chain, derailleur or hub?

sorry, I wasn't clear or should I have said rubber and plastic. The carbon belts are not as long lasting as chains, more so compared to rustfree chains. Carbon belts are also not repairable.

this may be semantics but is it true that: - careless driving: applies to motor vehicles - furious riding: applies to bikes his bike seems to be classified as a motor vehicle, so at this level, the determination has an effect on his case.

I need some advice about replacing an Impulse 2 mid-motor

I don't know what problem Keterick's bike has. If it's a needle bearing problem, then take a look at this, I reckon performancelinebearings should be able to help him. https://www.performancelinebearings.com/impulse-2-bearing-identifier/ I was looking into a possibility of mounting a smaller...

Think a kit is the cost effective option, but at 18St 8Lbs, I may be wrong.

The change in pedelecs law since 1/1/2016 applies only to manufacturers. It bans the twist and go throttle. On bikes that I make, to comply with the law, the throttle is only activated after you pedal. Thus, if you just twist/push on the throttle while stationary, it won't start the motor. You...

Think a kit is the cost effective option, but at 18St 8Lbs, I may be wrong.

it's recommended but your fork does not have postmount for disc brakes, that advice is not practical. Middle crank drive motors and geared hub motors all have internal gearbox and clutch. They don't have noticeable drag. On a lightweight bike, you don't even notice the extra weight, either...
