And on that cricketing note, since it seems our cricketers are so good, why cant they play other countries for something useful instead of silly ashes or titles? Such as a hefty chunk of their respective national debts. .

The Leave campaign didn't know The Almighty was on the EU's side. It was inevitable, the Continentals go to church far more often than we do, we atheistic lot never stood a chance. .

Reuben's bike has the Yamaha PW-series 250W mid motor and Shimano Deore 9 speed gears. Does anyone know if there's a larger chainwheel for it than the present 42 tooth or an option for a smaller top gear sprocket on the rear cassette? .

To dispel any misunderstanding, I don't wish I had never been born and never have done. In contrast though, I don't care when I die and have meant that since about the age of 20. Ever since then I've said this on the subject, "I'm ready to die any time, even before the end of this sentence". .

I'm absolutely certain he is, I recognise the signs as someone who would definitely been diagnosed as having Aspergers at least if it had existed and been a recognised condition early enough. Being completely unable to cope with other people and unable to interpret their feelings, I eventually...

Which is a whole new subject with many complex aspects. Personally I'm very strongly in favour of termination in certain circumstances in old age, including for myself. And I post that as an 84 year old whose mother was terminated in such compassionate circumstances at 78 years old. .

None of which alters what I've posted. It was the very early acceptance of the norm of termination that lead to the lack of support. If that acceptance had not been there, the social and financial support would have been there, as it is for so many other disabilities. .

I don't know what you are all fretting about. If we and the rest of the world don't do something drastic PDQ about climate change, we are all going to drown or starve to death anyway. It won't just be eugenics, it will be all-of-our-genics. .

I have to disagree. If it was very unusual to terminate a Downs pregancy, far fewer would do so. The fact that almost all are terminated and on the whole the medical profession and society consider that a benefit makes considering it not just an easy option but normal. .

That is an extraordinary figure, it's almost three times the UK rate, pro rata to our populations. One for Ireland to be proud of and comparing with the best of the EU's countries. .

Nearly all meanings have changed over time as I've shown, and that Wikipedia definition is far too narrow in consequence. That some such as China have not changed does not mean that all other interpretations are incorrect. There is a difference between elimination of whole groups for social...

But at 98% because of common practice. You only think the mothers are deciding, when in truth it's that common practice that has decided. It was my way of illustrating that old style eugenics is still being practiced in the West, without even being mentioned by OG and JA. .

Not so, the historical record of democracies is one of constant improvement in this respect. Many of the things we once regarded as defects are no longer regarded in that way. Homosexuality for example. We once dealt with by killing, later by punishment, then by "treatment", finally by...

Yet we kill them before birth. That apparently is the definition of eugenics you and OG are applying, a false one created from the misuses by the Germans and Americans in the past. .

No OG, not the person. The democracy which creates the safeguards, all of us. And it's not deciding who lives and dies, it's deciding a small minority who will never be conceived, in most cases to live a life of suffering. .

No, the confusion is yours, narrowing eugenics to a definition confined to it's past misuses. That is what I'm arguing. .

Those who condemn eugenics make no mention of the fact that we in Britain terminate 98% of Downs syndrome pregnancies. Wouldn't it be better to eliminate the possibility of Downs, rather than killing them after conception? .

Blinkered nonsense. We have it within our power to eliminate some conditions that cause endless pain, suffereing and misery. The evil is in refusing to do so because it can also be used wrongly, while knowing that there can be legal safeguards to prevent such misuse. .
