the problem is they (P&O) may move their HQ and export profit made in the UK to Cyprus and pay CT there. Same with Dyson. Their profit is exported to Singapore, a low tax country.

that's where the common VAT area comes in. If you ship to another country, you don't have to charge VAT. If you ship from say your bonded warehouse in Marseille to St-Jean-de-Luz, you have to fill in a 'mise en consommation' form, on which you pay VAT and so does your customer. But if you ship...

folding bikes don't take much less space and just as heavy. If you can cross the river Thames, I am in Southend, you can try out something like this is much lighter and easier to lift, about 14kgs all in if you remove the lights and luggage rack: it has an in-frame (but removeable) tube...

I have no clue where you want to go with that post of mine. The EU allows Chinese companies selling to EU customers and evading VAT because there is no VAT check for shipments between member countries. UK customs should have checked, the couriers should have checked but they don't do their job...

zlatan, we can and do engage in robust discussions but Tommie's style has been 'sharp' if not provocative. his style puts me off from reacting to his posts in discussion, just as much as OT's did.

it's the same argument for and against brexit, which single market is more important to Scotland and NI? the UK or the EU? If we have a hard brexit, then an independent Scotland and member of the EU may be better for Scotland but that's not a given. A united Ireland may be much more realistic.

do you mean a deal supported by a majority of our MPs? The withdrawal treaty would be like it is at the moment, including the backstop, whatever the future trade relationship. The current row is entirely down to TM having many enemies instead of allies.

electric bikes are twice as heavy as ordinary bikes, they weigh around 20kgs. It is very difficult to lift an electric bike to a roof rack. Look for a bike carrier for your car first.

we should discuss with the EU about managing future divergence and negotiate an associate membership. There are clear advantages to have our own trade policy but for the next 10 years, we need to stay within the EU economic sphere. that's why I prefer the Norway model. It has excellent access to...
