Have you tried the motor with 16 or 17 Amps? Putting range over and above performance.

Other than brute force my preferred method is now to disassemble the freewheel to get to the body. Take the bearing cover off, remove the cogs (over a bucket stops ball bearings from rolling all over the place). Once you have access to the body you have more tool options. It is easier for you...

Are you sure the mid motor won't fit in between the two bars? Or underneath? OK so maybe. Why not put the battery in the cargo box out of sight and out of the way? Yes long wires mean energy loss so just make them very thick.
